Custom Folders

Submitted by Jsurfer200 on September 3, 2007 - 8:48pm

Is there anyway for me to add custom folders to the portable apps menu? I would like to put a games button next to the music, video, and pictures. (I have some really small flash games)

BTW, I apologize if this is already somewhere on the fourms (I could not find it) or if I put this in the wrong place or something.

Thank You!

Question: Update PortableApps

Submitted by Mefisto on September 3, 2007 - 2:07pm

Hello!

I wondered a long time right now whether I should update firefox etc with the autoupdater or use the download in this forum... are the portable features unusable if i use the autoupdater in the app?? i declined the infotool that reminded me to update my app(s) now many times but there're a lot changes right now in the newer versions and I want to make an update imeditally... My sumerised question:

May I let Firefox (Thunderbird etc.) do his update by itself or should I use the download here and decompress the app about my old version??

Weird problem with MV2Player in X:\PortableApps vs X:\appname

Submitted by HaChayalBoded on September 3, 2007 - 4:08am

Here's the deal. When MV2 player is installed in the root directory of the drive it works fine. But since I wanted to get to it through the portable apps start menu I dragged and dropped it into the portable apps folder. (The whole MV2 player folder not just the exe). Ok so it works now but the .ini & custom settings revert to default. Next step was to copy the .ini file from my C programs directory installed copy of MV2Player to the USB drive. That didn't fix anything and I checked the ini file in the USB drive and it had my custom settings and skins.

Wanted to check before releasing...

I just made my first portable app (SHWEET!!! Biggrin ) but the actual app is shareware. I was wondering if I could just post the launcher and the launcher's source and then just include a link to the app in the readme file (or on the post).
I have seen a bunch of posts about this but none of them were clear enough for me to distinguish this. Thank you for any help.

Regular Apps versu Portable apps on my laptop

Submitted by Vagabond48 on September 2, 2007 - 7:15pm

Hi,

I just came back from an extented stay overseas. I went with a couple of usb sticks and without my laptop. I, of course installed the necessary portable apps (firefox, thunderbird, sunbird). I am going back overseas and bringing my laptop as well as my usb sticks.

I am trying to determine if there is any disadvantage if I install the portable version (instead of the regular version) on my laptop to keep my apps more easily in sych between the laptop and usb? I may still need to use my usb drives when I go to certain countries without my laptop.

Thanks

Portable Apps Folder is empty, and so is the Documents folder!

Submitted by thraton on September 2, 2007 - 2:48pm

I popped in my flash drive after not messing with it in a while, i usually use my other one, and for some reason the portable apps suite wont start up so i went into the directory folder but its empty and so is the document folder, if i click on properties it shows it as being 0 kb, while if i do the properties of the USB its the same size as it was before. I am able to see hidden folders as well as system ones but the folders remain empty. I have no clue as what to do now. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
