I was just looking at another thread. In that thread, there were a couple of contributions which said that for PortableApps to be 'cleaned up' properly on exit, it was important that they were run from the PortableApps launcher as it was the launcher that was doing the clearing up?

Windows XP update of 3/16/11 breaks Portableapps autorun

Submitted by davily on March 17, 2011 - 11:51am

In case anyone is having problems getting their flash drive to autorun, Microsoft's March 16th update to WinXP disables autorun on flash drives. I let them install the update last night, before I read about it. This morning my USB drive would not run the Portableapps platform.

A simple uninstall solved the problem...just FYI. Smile

Dear, everyone in developers.

My name is Tadashi. And I'm Japanese.
I'm handicapped.
So I can not work.
Because there is no income.
Because I can not donate.
Please understand that it.
I really appreciate the things we get to use this great software for free.

I'm rooting for everyone in the software developers.
...And I hope to further progress of this software.

Regards,
Tadashi

Game Popularity/players

Hey there, Just wondering which game is more popular or widely played,(maybe how to tell ?) and which do you like if you play ? But the first person shooters, AssaultCube, Cube Portable, and Sauerbraten (Cube 2) Portable AC is pretty good and small, don't know how the others Play, I thought Cube was sort of dead, and AC was done it its place ?

Google chrome and extensions

Submitted by Arfarf on March 12, 2011 - 12:35pm

I want to use the Personal Site Blocker feature for searches at google.com.
I don't install Google products on computers because of the updaters installed,
the data reporting to Google, and because it is an online installer only.

So - having a portable Chrome that was securely sandboxed on a USB stick seemed like
an elegant solution.

However - while the extension installs it is only an emphemeral install.

Once you unmount the USB stick the extension will not be there when you
remount and open Chrome.

Hmm.. this is suspicious.

I'm sure I'm late to the game, but there's a site out there that looks suspiciously familiar to me. Won't link it, but it's only one letter difference from PortableApps and the logos look awfully similar.

Is there anything that can be done about that? I hate the idea of someone looking for this site and hitting that one instead.

U3

Submitted by sja5164 on March 11, 2011 - 11:54am

About a year ago, I bought a SanDisk Cruzer. The first thing I did was format it and remove the U3 software and replace it with PA. This morning I read an article about how great U3 is so I re-installed it on my drive out of curiosity. That lasted all of 30 minutes (mostly because U3 is so slow that I couldn't remove it faster).

I've ran the removal tool and reformatted my drive...twice. But I still feel a little dirty. My PA is restoring right now, maybe I'll feel better once it's all back.
