Can I distribute flash 'drives' that automatically display content when inserted?

Submitted by juanantoniod on January 11, 2011 - 5:38am

Hello,

I am new here, so I apologize if this is in the wrong place. I am trying to create a flash drive that will automatically open and display a presentation or video when inserted into a computer, whether it is Microsoft, Apple, or Linux.

I am not a marketing spammer. I am not selling anything. I am a disabled man, turning 45 next month, and I have some wisdom that I would like to share with my [younger] friends. I hope you can help me.

Basically, this user describes what I am trying to do (this was posted in a forum on the 'net):

A lot of questions

Submitted by Devildevilscle on January 11, 2011 - 5:08am

I have read from one of the old forums here about a code block portable development, but i've viewed already all of the apps here(or my eyes just did closed on that page), aint portapps gonna release any?
Then, im hoping for a release of a "how to make apps port" using launcher generator and NSIS. I've read the topics on the forum and have seen the documentations. But my head really is slow. Studying now for c++ but nsis is really new. I know there's a lot of discussions re this topic but for a slow like me, i crave for a much more fluid "how to". Thx.

Bootable OS?

So I've been thinking of this ever since I first started using PortableApps... What if it were possible to code a working operating system into portable apps. I'm talking very simple. Literally making it so it can just boot and display the apps available and make it able to get new ones via portable firefox etc etc etc. I know you'd have to code for drivers, and using Linux would be a great way to do that in a minimalist way. Any thoughts on this? Anyone want to tag team to make a working model? Thanks.

Installing my old PortableApps.com on new pendrive

Submitted by buddybaker on January 8, 2011 - 4:42pm

I have PortableApps installed on a 4GB pen drive. I now have a new 16GB one.
I want to use PortableApps on the new one. Do I have to install everything on my new flash drive, thus having to configure everything again, or can I just copy and paste the files from the old to the new drive to have my PortableApps running there with the old configurations?
Thanks in advance.
