Been using Portable Apps for some time but SEP called it a Trojan today?

Submitted by Axiomatic on June 12, 2009 - 5:28pm

Hey guys, long time user of portable apps but first time forum poster here.

My corporate SEP (Symantec Endpoint Protection) software called StartPortableApps.exe a Trojan Horse today and quarantined/deleted it.... fair enough... I deleted and formatted my USB drive... went to another PC, re-downloaded the Portable apps install executable from Portableapps.com and set my USB drive and apps up again.... took it to a server in the lab (still different PC we are talking about here) that also has SEP loaded and got the same thing?!?!?!

Any portable utilities/program to Launch/RUN Program

Submitted by newbie_nz on June 11, 2009 - 11:38pm

Hi all,

I just want to know if anyone know of any portable utilities/program that can be used to launch/run program? Kinda like when you are clicking Start-Run.

I know I can achieve this by merely creating a shortcut and place that on my taskbar, but of course, having to do so for each command will clutter up my taskbar. Googling at the moment but can't find any.

Any suggestions will be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Brief Site Outtage - Power Failure (June 10, 2009)

There was a brief site outtage today at approximately 8:15pm NY time. Due to a storm, power was knocked out at our Dallas-Fort Worth data center. An Automated Transfer Switch which is supposed to automatically switch over to internal power failed causing an outtage for our server behind the switch. The engineering team manually switched over affected systems to generator power and the site was back online approximately 2 hours later.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Syncplicity + Portable Apps

Submitted by cristoslc on June 10, 2009 - 3:33pm

I've been using Syncplicity to synchronize my portable apps across multiple computers. This may not be the originally-intended purpose for these apps, but it's very useful. For example, if I add an extension to Firefox on my laptop, it's automatically available on my desktop!

The only problem I've run into -- really, just on Syncplicity's end -- is that I occasionally need to clean out some duplicate files. Has anyone else tried combining these two tools?
