PortableApps newbie-HELP

Submitted by johnloughray on October 7, 2007 - 5:05am

Hi guys, new to portableapps.com. Need some help/direction.
I have installed portableapps suite (Base Edition) on my external hard drive. I’m trying to find a guide on how to use the Menu. Or have I downloaded the wrong thing.
I want to store & play my music (using VLC). I also want to download some other portable applications directly into the menu but not mastered it yet.

Saved as HTML email has trojan

I have read here briefly that there are reports of false positives with PA in connection with apps. However, I saved the registration email to html formay onto my desktop to view outside of Thunderbird once I had closed PA.

Imagine my surprise when AVG report a trojan from this file when I attempted to open it within firefox from my desktop installation of Windows Vista.

What gives ?

And how do I fix this trojan issue so as not to upset owners of systems I wish to use when overseas ? Would be downright unhealthy should a trojan alert appear on their system.

Wont install apps anymore?

Hello everyone, i had just got my 8 gig memory stick today specifically for portable apps. I installed the standard version today but the menu would not load. So i installed the base version and decided to build off of that.

I installed pidgen and open office immediately after i installed base, and when i did so i unplugged the device and pluged it back in to make sure it worked properly, and it did.

hey guys,

i've got a new theme that i'd like to share. 2b honest, it's not exactly
a 'new theme' but i've changed the looks of the menu Smile i kinda skin it. hehe.

It is based on Royal Noir Theme by PAM Themes (http://blog.kain-planet.de/?cat=6)
And i call it, Port.Warez (portable softwares). It's nothing special but just thought
that i want to share it with my PortableAppers.

Just click on the link below and unzip it using winrar to your favourite thumbdrive or any portable devices.
But please dont keep it in a file cause i've included the autorun script(by Xrx)

Anyone experience with portaleapps, encryption and network devices?

Submitted by jps on October 4, 2007 - 12:59pm

I and a friend (and maybe later a group of people) plan to use network device. Some online storage such as (s)ftp or ssh. This ftp drive will be mounted into windows explorer (with ftpdrive, sftpdrive or netdrive or just with the windows explorer build in function).

Purpose? We want to share a calendar (either the hole Sunbird on that device or just the profile folder), some source code files, documents and stuff like that.

Envoking from file or explore mode?

Any suggestions for a work around for recognizing and evoking the portable app from the file or explore mode.

An example would be when the user, (in the file folder or explorer mode) double clicks on a open office file it will not start the open office application from the portable app, when the open office software is not on the operating system which the USB stick is plugged into.
