Can't install portabl apps

Submitted by kabo on October 4, 2007 - 2:44am

Hi there,

for some reason I can't install portable apps on my 4gb astone usb stick. It comes up with:

#0 PortablApps_Suite_Standard_1.0.exe is not supported archive.

the error message is from 7-zip

I've tried both the light and the standard version, both won't work. I had tried to put portable apps on a few weeks ago and it worked fine, so don't know what's wrong now.

Any ideas?

Thanks
kabo

Auto-Minimize to Tray

Submitted by ihatemakingscree on October 3, 2007 - 8:08pm

Is there anyway to prevent the Portable Apps Suite from minimizing automatically to the tray after starting a program?

I mostly use the suite at my school computer labs, which are locked with Desktop Authority, which apparently won't give me access to the anything on the task bar, including the system tray icons (I can't even right click!).

Thanks!

Please stop editing old posts

As the first two pages of the tracker have been fixed,

PLEASE STOP EDITING OLD POSTS TO FIX SIGNATURES.

It forces old topics to appear as new on the main page even though they're quite old. Someone went through and edited posts as old as mid-August, causing the tracker to be filled with old topics.

If older topics are resurrected, mods will edit the posts within them.

Autoplay won't work after reformatting drive to NTFS

Submitted by forgotmyoldname on October 3, 2007 - 9:14am

I formatted my drive to NTFS and now it won't autoplay when I insert it, it just opens up the drive in Explorer. I have to manually autorun it by right-clicking on the drive letter and selecting AutoPlay. Is there any way to change the properties so it autoplays on insertion like it's supposed to?

New personal homepage links, signature display and signature guidelines

It's been a long time coming, but personal signatures are finally separated from content on the site. Now, when you create a comment, your signature will not appear in the box. It will appear below your comment once posted, though. And, when you update your signature, it will update across all your comments.

The signatures are also displayed in a smaller italicized font to make it more clear that it isn't part of the comment itself, making it easier to follow along a discussion. This also makes any lines of characters people add to signatures to separate them redundant.

Tags?

What about main post tags?

I think that might help with come of the search issues. Many people try to search, but come up empty because they do not know exactly what to search for.

Example: ImgBurner Generic Portable v1.5. Description might say something like this. A portable version of ImgBurner Generic 1.5. This program can manage your cd or dvd burning tasks.

(Tags): ImgBurner dvd cd burn burner cdwriter dvdwriter dvdrw cdrw cdr dvdr copy clone.

How to manually assign visible executables PotableApps Launcher

I am using MplayerUI as a portable media player (less CPU intensive then VLC). My problem: In the launcher both MPUI.exe and mplayer.exe are displayed and I need only one. How can I bypass PA's automatic filling of the menu with executables? I was thinking of links/bats. Any ideas?

Similarly I get 4 exe's from Pain.net portable (found it on some french site) and Totalcommander (which I've noticed keeps only it's directory shortcuts on the machine, the rest works just fine).

Forum Avatars Test

I've just enabled forum avatars to test them out. They're small 16x16 icons (similar to those that appear on Digg-style sites in comments) and limited to 2K to keep bandwidth down (as long as you optimize when saving from any image program, it'll be fine). You can upload your own by going to your My Account page. They'll appear within any forum posts you make and any comments.

Oh, and you made need to reload a page to get the new CSS file that makes them show up properly.

Please give it a try and post any thoughts.

Regards,
John
