Is there a portable app similar to Free Commander

Submitted by JamesSoCal on September 23, 2007 - 2:35am

Free Commander is a file handling utility similar to the old File Command of Win 3.1 but on steroids. It can be viewed at www.FreeCommander.com. There are more viewable features than Windows Explorer along with a greater overall versatility. It will install to a flash drive and appears to be fully functional even when running on other than the original host computer. If WinRar from RarLabs is running on the host computer both zipped & rared files can be viewed as though they are just another folder.

Portable Apps update cycle?

Submitted by JamesSoCal on September 23, 2007 - 2:26am

When using FF, TB & OO in a portable apps installation of about a week ago I notice all are the older versions even though FF 2x, TB 2x & OO 2x have been available for some time. Does the portable apps dev group update these apps with an update to portable apps or does the user have to do the update? My thought would be the dev group since they likely need to be tweaked to run inside PA but I am just wondering. The system works great as it is for my purposes & I thank the dev group for the time they have spent getting it to this point.

Take the default Autorun.inf file from \PortableApps and copy it to \

Default Autorun.inf looks like this:

[Autorun]
Open=PortableApps\PortableAppsMenu\PortableAppsMenu.exe
Action=Start PortableApps
Icon=PortableApps\PortableAppsMenu\PortableAppsMenu.exe
Label=PortableApps

Now edit \Autorun.inf so it looks like this:

[Autorun]
Icon=PortableApps\PortableAppsMenu\PortableAppsMenu.exe
Label=PortableApps

Installer & Destination Folder

Submitted by hoerby on September 20, 2007 - 5:33am

Hi!

(first: sorry, if this topic has still been discussed in the forum)
(second: sorry for my english)

Installer:

I was happy with the distribution of the Portable Apps via 7z files.
I think, that a "Portable- Application Installer" is some paradox ...
I just want to expand the package.
probably you call it "PortableApps.com Extractor"

Destination Folder:
the second screen of the Installer let choose the directory for extraction.

There i miss the easy possibility to extract in the same dir of the installer.
