Suggestion? Next Pre-Relase 5 minimize to tray

Submitted by drsprite on December 5, 2011 - 11:22am

Hi,

I just upgraded to the Next Pre-Release 5 and really like it. I enjoy the layout and the app updater worked great on all the older apps.

Just one suggestion (I think), unless I am missing it?

How can I minimize the PA.c Platform it to the tray? This way it doesn't take up space in my task bar.

I am on Windows 7 Ultimate x64.

Thank you

Suggestion - Application sets

Submitted by OLLI_S on December 4, 2011 - 10:48am

Hello,

I have a new suggestion for the Portable Apps Platform.
In following I write PAP for "Portable Apps Platform".
By the way: I am using the version 4.2 of the PAP.

When I start the PAP, I have 7 applications that I always start.
So every day I have to click 7 times on the PAP menu and select the desired application.

Here it would be useful to define sets of applications.
A set is a name and a bundle of installed portable applications.
Sets are also shown in the PAP app list so I can search for them and also start them.

UNC issues and updating from PA.com menu is giving errors

Submitted by robw on December 2, 2011 - 8:21am

HI all,

I'm running into some issues with the latest 4.2 release of the PA.com platform.

First of all, I'm running a lot of portable apps from my server, so the path is \\servername\apps\portableapp
This way it doesn't matter what pc I sitting behind at the house, and it's easily copied to a portable HD for using 'on the road.

Buty here are my 'issues':

First I tried to install PA.com onto the server, but it cannot resolve the UNC path and throws a location error. I just installed on a local HD and moved the files over. Workaround> solved!

Suggestion - Show Installed Apps

Submitted by OLLI_S on December 1, 2011 - 4:30pm

Hello,

I have a new suggestion for the Portable Apps Platform.
In following I write PAP for "Portable Apps Platform".
By the way: I am using the version 4.2 of the PAP.

The "Portable App Directory" just displays apps, that I do not have installed.
For an error report I wanted to see what apps I have installed (a complete list), but this is not possible.
Such a list would also be useful to show it to colleagues and friends.

An Idea would be a Checkbox below the list with the text "Show installed apps".
If this box is checked, then also all installed apps are shown.

Suggestion - Outdated Apps + Version Number

Submitted by OLLI_S on December 1, 2011 - 4:26pm

Hello,

I have a new suggestion for the Portable Apps Platform.
In following I write PAP for "Portable Apps Platform".
By the way: I am using the version 4.2 of the PAP.

Some apps (like "System Explorer") are outdated.
Means that the version offered as portable app is older than version offered on the official home page of the app.

Here it would be useful to see this information while downloading apps via the PAP (in the "Portable App Directory" window).
You also should show the version number of all portable apps in a separate column.

Next 4.2

Submitted by RON C on November 30, 2011 - 3:06pm

Installed Next 4.2 release and I am no longer able to scroll the app window and using the up arrow at the app bottom, the app disappears from the screen but is still running according to task manager. Icon is missing from Task box.
XP home Netbook with planty of disk and memory. Previous App worked fine.

How do I rectify the problem.

Suggestion - Configurable Hot Key

Submitted by OLLI_S on November 30, 2011 - 2:40pm

Hello,

I have a new suggestion for the Portable Apps Platform.
In following I write PAP for "Portable Apps Platform".
By the way: I am using the version 4.2 of the PAP.

At the moment the hot key to display the PAP is [CTRL]+[ALT]+[SPACE].
It would be fantastic if I could configure this hot key in the preferences.
Useful if this hot key is already used by other applications or of I just want to have an other hot key.

Greetings

Suggestion - Search in the Portable App Directory

Submitted by OLLI_S on November 30, 2011 - 2:38pm

Hello,

I have a new suggestion for the Portable Apps Platform.
In following I write PAP for "Portable Apps Platform".
By the way: I am using the version 4.2 of the PAP.

When I download new apps via the PAP, it would be very useful to search for apps in the "Portable App Directory" window.
Here a search field should be displayed (like the search field in the PAP) where the user can enter search criteria.

If I have entered some text, then just those entries are shown, that contain the search text.

Installing a non-paf portable program and seeing it in my start.exe menu

Submitted by prr on November 29, 2011 - 12:27pm

I like FastStone image viewer. They have directions for installing their app as a portable app--just download a zip file and place the entire folder on the drive you want to use. http://faststone.org/FSViewerDownload.htm

Now I have done this--placing the file onto my USB drive, but I'd also like it visible when I open my my portable apps directory.
