[Closed] Suggestion - Application selection in the search results

Submitted by OLLI_S on December 15, 2011 - 2:57am

Hello,

I have a new suggestion for the Portable Apps Platform.
In following I write PAP for "Portable Apps Platform".
By the way: I am using the version 10.0.1 of the PAP.

When I start tying (for example "Eras") to find "Eraser", then I get two results ("Eraser" and "EraserDrop").
Here I would like to select the correct entry by using the arrow keys (arrow up and arrow down).

Yes, I had a look at the PortableApps.com Platform Bug Report and Feature Tracker.

Forcing Portable apps to load

Submitted by toolpusher on December 14, 2011 - 11:44am

Expect this is a no no but worth asking. Can a setting be changed on PA to force it to load when you insert a USB flash drive? The reason I ask is I would like it to load on my Sat Nav on my car which runs through a version of win embedded CE 6 which I have no access to other than by inserting a USB drive?

Request - Ability to specify path to non-PAF apps

Submitted by RogerL on December 14, 2011 - 5:22am

If you want to have non-PAF apps appear in the menu I know you can move their installed root folder tree into the PortableApps folder.

However that might break some apps. Seems to me that it's just wrong to insist that an app's installed tree is moved.

I have been using portable apps since the beginning of floppy discs and have a well defined apps tree under \Progs: AutoIt3 scripts, Bats, ConApps, WinApps, and MyProjects.

I like to keep things tidy and for me the PortableApps directory should only contain apps obtained from PortableApps.com.

Hide Desktop Icons

Submitted by The Rabbit on December 13, 2011 - 9:16am

Can you help me as I cannot find the selector in the current version (10.0.1) or perhaps there is a short cut way of switching between the two without using the Windows switch off the desktop right click menu.

In the previous version of the P.A. platform under 'Options' there was a select for hiding/showing the desktop icons.

Looking on the support page I find that it is still part of the listed information and it is still listed in the PortableAppsMenu.ini.

Feature Request - Custom Menu Items

Submitted by kraigedwards on December 12, 2011 - 1:28pm

I have a suggestion. I think that it would be a great addition if the portableapps platform allowed the user a couple customizeable folder shortcuts located on the right hand side of the menu in the area where the documents, music, pictures, videos folders are located. That way the user could link to a folder located on their drive for easy access such as a download folder, or any other folder they may use often without having to explore to it.

Like I said, just a suggestion, nothing crucial.

I love all that has been going on with portableapps!

Tool tips in the PortableApps Menu

I don't know if anyone else struggles with this one, but I look at the apps in the apps list, decide what would be useful and download them.

Then sometime later (usually a number of months) looking through my installed apps I see the name of the app, but I've forgotten what it is for, and it's not apparent from the name.

I think it would be tremenously useful if the tool-tip that appears when you hover over the app name could give a description of what it is/does instead of the full path/location on the flash drive.

Customize icon of the (USB) drive that contains PortableApps.

Submitted by michele.bartole... on December 11, 2011 - 4:57pm

In the past I remember that when I installed the PortableApps platform on my USB flash drive, this changed the default icon of the volume to the symbol of PortableApps itself. In Windows, this was due to a "desktop.ini" file.

Since some months, I haven't been able to customize this icon anymore.

Is this normal (maybe due to the new Windows 7)?

I'd like some other opinions.

Michele
