Feature Addition: Scanning multiple directories for apps, opinions sought

There have been a few requests over the years to have the PortableApps.com Platform scan additional paths for apps. The rationale is usually that users want to keep non-PAF apps separate from PAF apps or apps that are updated automatically by the platform separate from those that are not. I'm planning on implementing this within a future release of the PortableApps.com Platform and wanted to layout the setup and see if there are any comments or suggestions.

Please report any bugs you find with the platform here. There is a separate forum thread for localization discussion and another for apps that need an update. Bug reports made in comments will be deleted once added to this categorized list. Duplicate reports will be removed. Fixed bugs are listed in the PortableApps.com Platform Change-log.

Submitted by ZensationalRZ34 on May 29, 2026 - 8:49pm

I have been using PortableApps.com off and on for years and usually with no issues what so ever. However, today I had it kinda wig out on me. I haven't close and relaunched the app because I kinda think its cool but also kinda want it back to normal lol.

Automatic start of applications depending on the operating system

Submitted by us on May 27, 2026 - 6:43am

I use Portable Apps on a USB stick. However, I use different operating systems, ranging from Windows 7 to Windows 11. For some applications, however, I cannot use the automatic start feature, as they do not run on all operating systems.
Is there a way to launch the appropriate version of an application when it starts? Similar to 32-bit and 64-bit?

Automatic start of applications with administrator rights

Submitted by us on May 27, 2026 - 6:22am

Windows 11 Pro 24H2
Portabel Apps 30.4 on USB stick

I use the automatic start-up feature for a few useful tools. Unfortunately, some of these tools (on Windows 11) increasingly require administrator rights.
Is there a way to configure the automatic start-up to use administrator rights? Or do I have to do without the automatic start-up feature?

[Fixed] NSIS Portable 3.12 shows as invalid/corrupt in updater/app store

The NSIS Portable download doesn't seem to download correctly in the app software center, it's suggesting an incomplete download or other network issue. I doubt it's my network as trying to download directly from the site it's fine and other apps in the software center seems to install correctly, at least that I can see. Suggests the location programmed into the app center might be incorrect or ending the download.

BUG

Submitted by KevinC on May 18, 2026 - 12:30am

Hello, I am a long time user of Portable Apps Thunderbird on Windows 10.

I recently purchased a Windows 11 notebook and tried to install Thunderbird. Unfortunately I received an error message that the computer could not support the 16 bit program.

This is to ask if there is a work around, or is there going to be a windows 11 compatible version of Thunderbird. (hopefully soon)

Alternatively, do you have an alternative Portable version of another similar e-mail program, or can you recommend such a product.

Thanks for maintaining the Portable Apps platform.

Platform “Videos” folder link…

Submitted by Marty8E@gmail.com on April 5, 2026 - 6:00am

This MUST have been discussed before, but I couldn’t find anything from a forum search. On my PA installation, the Music and Pictures links go to the USB folders, correctly, but the Videos button goes to the Windows Video folder instead. I keep PA up-to-date. I have had this problem for years, but thought I would find out if there’s a solution… ?

32bit version option

Submitted by Totoche on March 26, 2026 - 2:01am

Hi,

(I don't know if this is normal or a bug, and I've wanted to report it for a long time, but I never got around to it...)

I have put the "include the 32-bit versions --> never" since this feature was introduced.

But every time there's an app update (for an app that supports 32-bit architecture), the update window has the “Include 32-bit version” option pre-checked. (As if it were ignoring the option in the main menu...)

Merci,
