Windows ask to format USB key with PortablesApps!

Submitted by ProgMan on December 26, 2011 - 7:23pm

Yesterday, I installed PortableApps and somes portables applications on a 2 GB USB key. Everything seems to work fine.

Today, when I plug in the USB key, Windows 7 asks to format it.

So, I format it (FAT32), reinstall everything and check it again. Everything worked fine. Then, I remove the USB key using the eject button in PortableApps menu and plug it in again. Once more, Windows asks to format the key.

I checked in Window's Computer Management and find out filesystem changed from FAT32 to RAW.

What's the problem?

Version 10.0.1 upgrade question.

Submitted by Cheeky Kid on December 26, 2011 - 2:46pm

Hi,

I am running PortableApps 10.0.1 and have no idea how I upgraded it, I think it was version 2.0 before. Is this an auto upgrade?

When downloading new versions do you have to uninstall PortableApps or install over the existing program on the USB drive?

I do not recall downloading 10.0.1. Strange.

Thanks for any advice you can give me.

Auto-update problem/bug when used on a hard drive: It just keeps downloading and re-updating 10.0.1

Submitted by Megafrog on December 22, 2011 - 2:37pm

The subject/title just about says it all. I'm running it on Vista64 on the hard drive (because I hate installing anything I don't have to).

Every time I do the "check for apps" then supposedly "update" 10.0.0 to 10.0.1 as the "required platform update" it asks to close all instances of the PA platform, then click ok.

Problems with eject utility

10.0.1
Windows 7 Professional 64-bit

It seems to me that there have been some changes to the built-in eject utility in the latest build. Now when I eject the drive the normal PA.c icon is replaced momentarily by a white one and I generally (though not always) get an error message saying that the drive can't be stopped.

Here's what I've done to test it:

1. Close all software that's running from the drive.
2. Go off and make a cup of tea (in other words leave it several minutes).
3. Try to eject the drive using the built-in utility.
4. Get error message.

Add keyboard navigation

I don't know if this is a bug or a feature request, but what I do know, is that keyboard navigation in the PA app isn't working.

If I press win+alt+spacebar, I'd expect the very next action (selecting an app) to be performed on the keyboard as well, but none of the possible keys seem to do anything. I'd expect the cursor keys to move the selection and I'd expect the tab key to visibly change focus between areas.

Basically, much like the windows vista/7 start panel.

Can this be added/fixed in the next version?

[Fixed] Unknown Software Exception when Ejecting

Submitted by OLLI_S on December 16, 2011 - 8:54am

Hello,

I have the PAP (Portable Apps Platform) version 10.0.1.
My OS is Windows XP Professional SP3 (German OS).
The language in the PAP is English.

When I click on the "Eject" button in the PAP then a "Unbekannter Softwarefehler" (Unknown Software Exception) is shown.

The English text would be (this is my translation):
The Exception "Unknown Software Exception" (0x0eedfade) occurred in the application at the position 0x7c812afb".
