When I click Start Port Apps) in USB Folder/File, it crashes: Internet Explorer has encountered a problem...

Hello, when I try to use my USB/Port Appps on my XP PC, I plug it in and it comes up and I select "view files" and then select the Grey-white swoosh arrow circle START PA icon and I get: Internet Explorer has encountered a problem... and nothing happens except it wants to send Problem info to MSN.

Save the downloaded installer files; AutoStart; Skip update for some applications

1. I want to save the installer files to a folder, so that I can install them on our servers without download again and again (like the Cygwin setup.exe does), it can save bandwidth and time in poor internet environment.

2. Wish the platform can start when Windows started.

3. For some application, I'd rather stay on the old version than update to new version, so when updating, I'll uncheck these applications, I wish the platform can 'remember' my choice, then next update I'll not need to uncheck them again. (like foobar2000 installer does, and Microsoft Update does)

Updater Error?

Submitted by joshengle on October 24, 2011 - 9:28am

First I must say how exciting the new platform releases are. So Excited to see so many of the features we have been waiting for in practice!!
However since upgrading, when the portableapps menu starts up I get the following error: "The PortableApps.com Updater must be run from the PortableApps.com Platform. It will not function properly when run directly."

I have checked my ini to see if it was still being invoked from there (Part of my old way of launching the diff apps I need). But the Updater is only being called by the platform - ie i ticked auto update in the options menu.

Attempting to install 4.1 on a fresh USB drive. Norton Internet Security 2012 finds s.ml.app "suspicious" and installation fails. Turning off NIS and installing results in installation but no applications in the menu.

Optimal Virtual Memory (paging file) setting for PORTABLE APPS?

Submitted by Logos A on October 23, 2011 - 7:51am

I am running PORTABLE APPS on a very old computer with the following specs

1.87 gigahertz Intel Pentium M
1024 Megabytes RAM
64 kilobyte primary memory cache
2048 kilobyte secondary memory cache

Since I dont have much RAM , and firefox portable is a huge memory hog.So I have to rely on XP to increase my virtual memory.Ive set the virtual memory for my main hard drive to stay between 300-100mb.This is working, but it does get slow after running all day.

Should I increase this?or set XP to automatically manage it?

OPTIMAL Filesystem / Allocation unit size to use for PORTABLE APPS?

Submitted by Logos A on October 23, 2011 - 6:38am

I've decided to format my flash media on several computers and reinstall the latest PORTABLE APPS pre release 4.1.Im going to be running it from the following:

512 mb Micro SD card
2 GB Micro SD card
1 GB USB flash drive

So what is the most efficient format option for each scenario (since since each is dependant on drive size)

FAT (FAT16)
FAT32
NTFS
exFAT

Also what allocation size should I use for the clusters?

4k,16k,32k, ......512k,1024k, .....ETC,ETC
