Submitted by tal on January 10, 2011 - 10:51pm

hello portableApps.com stuff and developers
i want to suggest an 4 features that will make portable Menu more comfortable!

1.
add a custom user detect path library that the portableApps menu will read
from her additional default library, and add a menu in option
that the user can add and remove a library as he want.
and add the option for the user to add it a relative path or absolute path.

2.
add a group option. if i had too many portable apps and i have, i want to
orgnize it by a group section to find more quickly the app i want to.

3.

Error with PortableAppsUpdater - not sure where to report it

Submitted by dsl101 on January 6, 2011 - 5:47am

I'm not using the full PA Suite, just the updater, and its been working fine. Today, however, an update of Skype Portable failed (unfortunately, I can't see if it kept the 'show details' window anywhere, but if failed with an error related to the directory App\Skype\Phone or something similar (Skype was running at the time - no warning was given to close it, which I guess is a Skype Installer issue).

Portable Apps nur auf Stick ????????

Submitted by Peters7 on January 5, 2011 - 6:06am

Custom Menu

Submitted by DerDok on January 4, 2011 - 11:07pm

Hello all, I've searched all over, and I guess I don't know what to ask for. A couple of years ago, I downloaded a way to modify the menu or the launcher, and it would allow you to change it to HAL3000, a TV screen, broken monitor, and had some other cool features. Does anyone remember this, and can steer me the right way? I know it wasn't stock-Thanks-Eric

Right-Side Document Folder Icons?

Submitted by Anjohl on January 4, 2011 - 1:44pm

Hey guys, first off, love, love, love, love the site and the technology! I think this sort of thing could be the future of computing..but I digress.

I set my menu up with a custom set of apps, since some of the bundled ones were of little use to me right now, and the LEFT side menu works great. What isn't working seemingly are the right side document folders icons. I have the folder pictures, but not the names as on the main page. For example, my "Music" folder does have say "Music", it just has the icon. Is there some way to fix this?

Thanks in advance!@

RegOverridePredefKey

While researching something else I came across this interesting Windows api that allows a process to redirect a registry key using an API. Wondering if it might be helpful to advert the need to backup local instance registry keys and restore them - as well as allow simultaneous running of portable and local app instance with independent registry stores.

Checking Portable.Apps.com <D:> for errors...

Submitted by Gosh Darn It on January 2, 2011 - 6:09pm

Hello, can someone please advise, when I open and run this (under Options on front App.) I come up with the report and it says Windows finds errors on the "disc" (portable drive) but cannot fix them... as this was done without the /F (fix) parameter. It also says Windows found errors with file system. It says run CHKDSK with F/parameter option to fix these problems. Can I do this and how do I do this? Thank you,
Gosh Darn It.

Sanity check: Using RegistryValueWrite for application path

Submitted by aef03 on December 31, 2010 - 11:25am

Background: I do know the standard approach to this and have it working for many apps, but wanted to run this by the experts here due to the concerns outlined in the benefits section below. (Just mentioning this so that I don't get referred to the manual or receive tips on how to make it work the conventional way.)

I have an application where the only setting I need dynamically update with [FileWriteN] is the path.

However, it stores it in two different keys.

So it is costing me two [FileWriteN]'s to get it ready.
