Menu required or free to choose ?

Submitted by guillaume.prevot on January 20, 2011 - 3:00am

Hello everyone,

Chris Morgan said here that

"For the individual apps, PortableApps\AppNamePortable\AppNamePortable.exe is what you need to launch. However, this doesn't replicate the environment set up by the Platform; the Platform adds some environment variables"

Does this mean that PortableApps users will be forced to use PortableApps menu to make application work ?

How do I start portable apps, in the portableapps environment, from the command line?

BACKGROUND:
I started using PortableApps around 2006/2007, when I got my first USB flash drive, but I never got around to using them much, as I don't really carry a flash drive around with me. Instead, I have my own ultracompact ThinkPad wherever I go.

But I have recently rediscovered PortableApps and realised that they work very well with my system of syncing my 'command' directory on all my machines. This contains all my scripts and command line programs, Cygwin, and now also having a lot of portable applications in there is proving very useful indeed.

QUESTION:

open office won´t restart without reboot

Submitted by glen_michael on January 18, 2011 - 2:08pm

after using OO port from portable apps menu and closing program, cannot re-launch any OO module (from PA.c menu or directly from disk module exe file) until after a system reboot. using Vista home basic w/sp2, OOP v3.2.0, on Acer Extensa 5230. Doesn´t matter if I re-open PA.c menu from tray or completely close PA.c then re-start it OOP modules will not start again until after a re-boot. I just tried using a direct launch from module exe, and multiple starts appears to be a problem only if the program has been launched from PA.c menu.

update suite

Submitted by cowellj78 on January 17, 2011 - 5:29pm

Hi.

I keep trying to updae the suite itself but end up just downloading and installing a second, empty updated suite. Is there no way to update the suite and not have to mess around copying all the apps over?

4 new features that will make all the different

Submitted by tal on January 10, 2011 - 10:51pm

hello portableApps.com stuff and developers
i want to suggest an 4 features that will make portable Menu more comfortable!

1.
add a custom user detect path library that the portableApps menu will read
from her additional default library, and add a menu in option
that the user can add and remove a library as he want.
and add the option for the user to add it a relative path or absolute path.

2.
add a group option. if i had too many portable apps and i have, i want to
orgnize it by a group section to find more quickly the app i want to.

3.

Error with PortableAppsUpdater - not sure where to report it

Submitted by dsl101 on January 6, 2011 - 5:47am

I'm not using the full PA Suite, just the updater, and its been working fine. Today, however, an update of Skype Portable failed (unfortunately, I can't see if it kept the 'show details' window anywhere, but if failed with an error related to the directory App\Skype\Phone or something similar (Skype was running at the time - no warning was given to close it, which I guess is a Skype Installer issue).

Portable Apps nur auf Stick ????????

Submitted by Peters7 on January 5, 2011 - 6:06am
