Font/ClearType in 2.0 beta 5

I've noticed that the fonts in the 2.0 beta 5 menu uses font smoothing, but not ClearType, just the grayscale smoothing. Except in context menus, where it does use ClearType.

This is a) strange and b) looks quite blurry on an LCD, esp. the bold font used for favorite apps.

A request

Submitted by Devildevilscle on February 7, 2011 - 2:24pm

Though i've read most of the topics, i just want to state what i like pa platform v2 be:
1.a customizable menu, where people like us who have a lot of apps could group apps and arrange the apps/icons by how i want it to be. A 2-pane menu GUI would be nice, though it should'nt be too wide. Or atleast, aside from simply scrolling down the apps on the menu, how about a tab or something like that.

2. A stay-on-top and stay-visible function so that i dont have to write on ini file.

Automatic/Scheduled Backup Feature Request

Submitted by Iislsdum on February 5, 2011 - 11:52am

A feature I would like to see in the next release of the platform is automatic and/or scheduled backup. I use PortableApps on my USB key, and know that they have a short lifespan, and tend to die within a few months. I think a backup scheduler would be useful to those of us with USB keys. Thanks in advance!

Password Protection

Submitted by rockyray85 on February 3, 2011 - 5:45am

Hi,

Seeing as I would want to use Firefox Portable, I would also like to protect the saved passwords in case the flash drive gets lost/stolen.
Is it possible to password protect the PortableApps platform? specifically the PortableApps folder?

Thanks,

Rocky

[Fixed] java portable installer size calculation wrong?

Today I wanted to update the commonfiles java to the latest version. I had 53 mb free space on my drive and the java folder was about the same size.
I run the installer but it told be I didn't have enough space to install it. I deleted the java folder inside CommonFiles and I had 123 mb free space. The java installer needs 105 mb so now I could install it.

Shouldn't the installer subtract the installed file size correctly when it does its calculations or does that not work with plugins in non-standard places like CommonFiles?

[Closed] mysterious platform crash (Stack Overflow)

Today I updated 3 of my apps and when I clicked the platform icon in my sys tray (Win XP SP3), it made that "blonk" error sound and the icon disappeared. I restarted it and everything was normal.
The same happened several times during the last months when I uninstalled an app.

I know this is one of those incomplete error reports no dev likes but I cant say anything else.

PA not reading all .exe files in program directories

Submitted by Ms_Tamany on January 31, 2011 - 3:03pm

Hi, folks!

I just absolutely love PortableApps, and am eagerly awaiting the newest 2.0 release (beta or stable) I am currently using the 2.0 Beta 5 Pre 2 release. I have almost all of the PA.c programs installed (though I don't use all of them, I'd like to try them, y'know?), as well as several other natively portable apps.

Within the last few days, the PA platform has stopped reading the .exe files of a handful of non-PA.c apps that it used to read just fine.

Is this the week of the new 2.0 platform?

Submitted by RobertMilk on January 31, 2011 - 8:51am

Based on John's Happy New Year message, posted of January 1,2011, this should be the week that the 2.0 platform should be released to the public.

"We'll be following that with 1 or 2 more betas and then the 2.0 final release later this month. Yes, you read that right. The 2.0 final release later this month... or within a week thereof... just to be safe. :)"

I can hardly wait.

I am filling up my stick with the new app releases.

Bob
