Flat skins

Just a suggestion:

The PA menu looks very nice and everything, but it does look quite out of date. The current fashion in graphic design is flatness and simplicity, with little or no colour gradients or 3D effects. This was started by big brands like Coca-Cola a few years ago, as a move to clean simplicity was tasteful in the new era of austerity.

With Windows 8 and the Metro styling coming over from Windows Phone 7, things are going to get even flatter and simplified.

Is there any plans to allow multiple downloads of portable apps at one time?

I searched for the answer to my question but the search terms didn't give me anything that looked relevant to my question, so i'm posting it here.

I remember seeing this type of question about a year ago or more (just before the updater was released) and wondered if this could be put in to play here?

my suggestion - put a checkbox next to the apps you would like to download - so you could effectively pull multiple apps at once (or ALL the apps at once as was inquired about by me and others a while back)

Not sure that this is even feasible or sensible but here goes. Would it be / is it possible to create a program consisting of just the Portable Apps updater portion of the platform? My thoughts are this: I run different USB sticks with many different "versions" of Portable Apps, depending on what my needs will be. I would like to launch a base app from my computer to search for the PA drive and update it without launching the actual platform. Then when done, I could remove the drive, insert another and repeat the process?

Source Code?

Submitted by MacBoy2008 on April 3, 2011 - 12:42pm

I am wondering if I would be able to see the source code for the PortableApps platform. I find the default menu (themes included) ugly and conspicuous, and was hoping that I could see the source code to turn the menu into a bar along the side of the monitor. I would not redistribute it, and also, either PortableApps or VLC crashed my friend's and my thumb drives, and I want to see the source code for that too. Pardon

What are the issues when running from Read-Only media (DVD)?

As PortableApps app files move about when they run, is it not possible to run them from read-only media?

Is there any way I can run PortableApps from a DVD?

Having them to hand on a virtual DVD when setting up a new Hyper-V virtual server would be very useful to me, as they have no USB support.

Lock the menu to the desktop

Submitted by SCMedic84809 on April 1, 2011 - 11:35am

Is there an app that allows the menu to stay visible on the desktop? I do not like having to click the small icon in the tray on the taskbar. Also, I have downloaded PA 2.0 hoping to be able to resize the menu. Either that is not possible or I have overlooked something. Can the menu be resized?

Thanks everyone,
Greg
