How to make a JAR file execute from the PAM

Submitted by netgk5815 on March 27, 2008 - 8:12pm

I have found a neet JAR file app I would like to run from my PortableApps menu instead of navigating to it and "double-clicking".

How would I go about getting an icon on the menu to run the JAR file? (I have chec ked the support page for PortableApps and it only mentions apps that have EXE files.)

(I hope this is the right place to post this. IMHO it is relevant to the PortableApps platform.)

Secret of using U3P on Portable Apps!!!

Submitted by cow360 on March 23, 2008 - 11:04am

It is so easy to use U3P files on your Portable apps usb.

I figured it out myself and I am only 16.

First open your .U3P file with (Rar) - There you will noramly see 3 or 4 folders
Extract them with rar and you will now have a folder made with the uncompressed folders, in that 1 folder.

Now open the folders one by one and look for the exe file of the app and move it outside the folder so you have Appfolder---Folder,Folder,App.exe. and put this Appfolder in (portable apps) in your usb.

Then Refresh your apps icons in Options then the app should appear in the list.

How can I change the app names?

Submitted by chazh on March 21, 2008 - 11:58am

Hi,

I love Portable Apps, but I don't like how everything is named on the menu!

(I think they are automatically being named from "Product Name" in the "Other Version Information" section in properties, but I can't change this.)

Is there any way the shortcut on the menu itself can be renamed?

E.G can I somehow change Firefox Portable so that it just says Firefox, etc.? Biggrin

How to install to Web Folder

Submitted by tedmasterweb on March 19, 2008 - 7:46pm

Hi,

I have a remote hard drive I access via https (WebDAV). I would like to install portable apps on my remote hard drive. However, when I run the installer, although I'm able to select the drive from the browse window, the Install button is never highlighted (clickable).

Also, I'd map the drive to a letter (as a work-around) but XP doesn't support this, especially when using SSL.

Any thoughts or ideas?

Thanks in advance.
