Possible Bug with Portable Apps Suite Standard 1.0

Submitted by tberneman on February 21, 2008 - 12:29am

I got a new PNY 8gb usb stick so I downloaded the standard version, installed it, and launched it. When it came up at the bottom it said "7.2GB free of 7GB". I suspect maybe its rounding down to 7 because right-clicking and selecting properties for the usb drive it says 7.45gb total. This was a virgin stick and all I installed was the Portable Apps Standard edition. I have a screen shot if you need it.

features in ubuntu under WINE

Submitted by IamCurtis1552 on February 18, 2008 - 11:28am

I really like portable apps, but I primarily use Ubuntu 7.10 x386 at home.
When I run the menu it work fine, but once it disappears i cannot find it again. The only way to shut it down is through the System Monitor.

There is an icon for it in the status area, but it is a non-icon; a completely blank space where you can see through the menu bar to the desktop.

Does anyone know how to fix this? or where I can access it?

The menu should have an option to create a small file even a blank one in the home computer so it won't change background there. Something like a portableapps.ini in the Windows folder.

Combined Quit & Safely Remove

Submitted by bencoman on February 12, 2008 - 11:33pm

For a while now I've thought it would be great if the Quit button on the PortableApps menu would also undock the USB key, instead of requiring a couple more clicks, on the Safely Remove Hardware icon, and then on the drive letter - which if there is a few choices can be awkward to work out.

Anyhow, I bumped into some code (while looking for something else) that might be a good starting point if anyone was interested.

Changing Icons

Submitted by bookmunkie on February 8, 2008 - 1:39pm

I like visual consistency. The icons that come with the menu for Documents, Music, Pictures, etc, are very nice, so I edited one to use for my directory containing Autohotkey scripts with the hope of doing similar things in the future for my other directories. It seems that a directory's icon is defined by the Desktop.ini file it contains. So, to make an icon for my Scripts directory, I put the new icon in the same place as the others, grabbed a Desktop.ini, changed the infotip and the icon it points at, and put it in my Scripts directory.

Closing Menu

Submitted by eded on February 2, 2008 - 3:11pm

When I try to close the menu by clicking on the X in the lower right corner nothing happens. I have to close the application using Windows Task Manager (ctrl/alt/del) so I can remove the USB thumb drive. Anyone know a solution? eded
