Securing data on my USB drive

Submitted by Tom-in-HK on June 2, 2008 - 2:15am

Hi,

I have installed Thunderbird and other apps on my thumbdrive, all seems fine. One question however: Is there a way that I can secure my data on the USB drive either in software or hardware?
If I loose the thumb drive then it seems anyone can access my information, also important if I was to use the GNUCash app for any financial info. If is there any passowrd protect feature available in the platform that would be good.

Autolauching an app when PA runs

Submitted by tajohnson on May 31, 2008 - 1:07am

I am new to portableapps, and first let me say that I think its great. I have two questions but since they belong in two different areas I will post only the one here. I am wondering if there is a way to tell portableapps that after it has loaded to start certain programs. For example I just started pnotes, and think it would be great if upon start portableapps that it just ran. Is this possible?

Hey guys

I downloaded the 1.1 platform standard edition and it worked quite well at first. However now the auto run feature isn't working. I mean the autorun mennu wont even come up. I downloaded the basic platform and reinstall to redo the platform without affecting my apps and for the smaller download:) Still the autorun menu wont come up when I insert my USB. Can someone please help me?

Many thanks

PAFormance (Did you see what I did there?)

Hi.

Having recently upgraded from a '4GB Sandisk Cruzer' thumb drive to an '8GB PNY Attache Optima' thumb drive I had hoped to see my PortableApps experience increase in usefulness threefold.

Precise expectations I know, but the read and write speeds of the new drive were around three times better than the old one. Unfortunately this simply isn't the case. Infact, the newer more capable drive has actually made PortableApps worse somehow.

How to add personal picture?

Is there any pre-requirements before you can add a personal picture? I'm not able to add any picture as with any picture I try, I get the same error message: "JPEG error#53"

This really driving me up to the wall. details of the image is as follows; this size is 2.8KB, the dimensions 48 x 48 and the image format is .jpg

I have tried different images, with different names but all are cropped/resized to 48 x 48 size. The image is saved in the Pictures folder of my PortableApps USB memory stick I use the latest version of the platform - 1.1

Sunbird and Thunderbird data not transferred to new platform

Submitted by jgassman on May 27, 2008 - 9:19am

Please forgive my ignorance. I installed my portable apps into the new platform menu, however, neither Sundbird nor Thunderbird carried over the information. Thankfully, I still have the data (accessible by opening the Sunbird and Thunderbird folders without using the menu). Does anyone know how to transfer the information (calendar events and address book) over to the new platform? Thank you in anticipation of someone's help.--Jay

Drive name

Submitted by thegreenwizard on May 26, 2008 - 1:52pm

I use a few USB-drives, and every one has a specific name. But since I installed PA suite, the name of my drives was changed to "PortableApps.com" in Windows explorer.
Is it a way that I could keep the name of the drive in state of the general "PA.com"?
Thanks

Actually I use VistaPremium SP1.
