PortableApps Directory Structure.

Submitted by SAL-e on May 9, 2008 - 2:28am

Today, I encounter small problem with "TaskCoach Portable". All this started dialog with John about how PortableApps interact with each other and what is the purpose of other directories like 'Documents' and "AppNamePortable\settings".

The original thread can be found here:

John,

Thank you very much for taking time to explain to me what was idea behind the chosen tree structure for PortableApps. Now I better understand how it is working.

Fatal error with Menu

Submitted by eckyeckypikang on May 6, 2008 - 3:23pm

I haven't had much luck searching the forums for my answer, so please forgive me for asking a question which may have been answered... I just can't seem to put the correct string of keywords together.

When I run the Menu and then make any selection from it, the selection starts fine, but I then get the error message "Portableapps Menu has encountered an error and needs to close." I have the option to debug the error or send an error report. Debug does nothing and I am getting tired of constantly having to restart the menu.

Update problem

Hi Guys,

I just downloaded and install the Standard Pack.
First I found that many if not all Apps are quite outdated despite yesterday download. But that is not a major problem.
The real issue as I see it is: When you go "Check for update..." from within Apps. it brings you to download pages of a Full versions of program(s) - not the portable ones (???).
Now I know and sure can use links on a respective pages for Portable Apps.
But why any given portable App itself does not provide that correct link?

Thanks in advance
Regards

How to fix Vista autoplay "Publisher Not Specified"

Submitted by jonathanbaker1 on May 2, 2008 - 2:46am

After much searching and looking everywhere in the .exe with PE Explorer, I cannot seem to find the solution to this. Even google was of little help.

In Vista, I plug in my USB and Autoplay starts just fine, everything works great! But underneath the "Start PortableApps" is the text "Publisher Not Specified."

My intuition tells me that the Publisher information should go in the appinfo.cfg or under the Version header in PE Explorer. I tried adding in a Publisher string in the Version header and recompiled it successfully, but still no change.

Exiting Portable Apps program

Submitted by raymantle on April 29, 2008 - 6:38pm

When exiting the program the following instructions are given - Always wait until the drive access light has stopped blinking and then click the icon in your system tray to 'Safely Remove' your device. When I follow these instructions I get the message "the device volume cannot be stopped right now. Try stopping the device again later". Later never comes and I end up just unplugging the USB device. Is there something I am missing or is this the only way to stop the Portable Apps program.

backup never finish?

Submitted by ottosykora on April 28, 2008 - 6:51am

I tried few times already to create an backup of my stick using the backup utility of the PA.

OK, it starts, the cmd window shows some files in some arbitrary order to be backed up, but the job never finishes. It produces a pregress bar, OK, but this is somewhere in the region of 90 percent and will not move further. The harddrive works all the time, after abt 30hrs I have given up that experiment.

The stick is 8gb, has some 5gb data on it.

am I doing something wrong or does this in general work this way?
