X Button Does Not Work

Submitted by Jim20e on November 30, 2006 - 9:18pm

On my Windows XP computer the X button is unresponsive. The PortableApps icon remains permanently in the system tray, but does toggle the menu on and off when clicked. The icon cannot be disabled to allow the USB flash drive to be "safely removed" while the computer is running.

I only learned the proper performance of the menu and the icon when I plugged the drive into another computer. There is one other discrepancy that may or may not be related: the nine items on the right half of the menu do not fit and bleed off to the right - on my computer. Any ideas?

A few suggestions + Linux friendly

I've just started using the new Portable Apps Menu. Before, I was using PStart.

I can already see pros and cons with both of these, but I choose to go with PAM because its brand new, and as such, is more likely to be improved over time.

A few simple things, some of these may have been stated before, but this is what I came up with, so if these are dupes, forgive me, but notice that multiple people are asking for the same things.

First off, while the GUI of the menu looks nice, It's not great for performance, especially on older systems. There should be an option to use a simpler look and feel, similar to XP's start menu when the system's theme is set to Windows Classic (I'm not talking about the old-style menu here, just the Look & Feel)

PA Menu- C&Q

Submitted by Dutchie on November 29, 2006 - 4:22pm

Hi John,
C&Q = Comments & Questions Smile

Very nice menu. Also works quite well.
Thanks for a great job.
However,my questions are:
1.Menu cannot be moved.
Could you please make the menu movable?
2.Menu exits whenever a selection is made.
Could you make the menu persist untill I choose to close it?
3.Occasionally the menu just closes by itself.
No idea why.
4.Are any other skins available?
I like the existing one,but also like to change at times Smile
5.Help file is non existent.(although icon is present on the Menu)
Any plans to provide a local helpfile?

Thanks in advance for your answer.

PortableApps Will Not Run

Submitted by ChazB on November 28, 2006 - 12:00pm

When I installed portable apps on my 512MB iPod Shuffle to see if I'd like it, everything worked perfectly. I went out and bought a generic 4GB USB 2.0 flash drive, and no matter what I try nothing will work. Every exe I try to run generates an error report to Microsoft. My USB drive works fine for everything else (read, write, access files) but nothing I do with PortableApps works.

Any ideas?

A few suggestions

First off, I love the menu. I have used PStart, and I actually like this menu better. Thanks for this very awesome product. I have searched the forum and haven't found any mention of a few things I would like to see in a future release. I realize these could take a while and could already be in development.

1. Addition or removal of folders in the folder list.
a. custom icon for folders

2. Resizable menu.

3. Custom display/ workspace options. (Maybe you can design this to be an add-on to the base install?)
a. background or wallpaper image
b. menu color
c. menu layout (where items are on the menu, minimalist layout)
