Security

Submitted by fiskern on December 5, 2006 - 2:26pm

I love the PAM. I have used U3 for some time, but have switched to PAM and I'm using it for several hours a day. I'm in love!

It is only one thing I'm missing; I like the security on my U3 stick. If the PAM could be password protected it would be nice. If someone stole my memory stick I would like to know that they have trouble getting any information out of it.

Would this be possible to fulfill?

OSI certified...source? (reprise)

Submitted by bjor on December 4, 2006 - 11:30am

John T. Haller--It's been a week and a half since I first requested the source code. I understand if "sourceforge borked it" the first time, but now please give us the source or at least an ETA! You can't release software as OSS and then withhold the source code! You read the forums and reply frequently, so please grace us with a reply here! Something better than "just wait," preferably. I really like the app but there are a few small things that make it unusable for me. Thanks.

Feature request: "lite graphics" menu

Submitted by tvierling on December 4, 2006 - 10:35am

One of the great advantages of portable apps is that they can run in a permissions-limited environment such as a terminal server. The problem with the Suite menu is that in such an environment, the rich gradient-based framing graphics, background image, and fade effect are major bandwidth hogs (and can really slow down the menu's usability over a slower network display link).

John, could you (pretty please...) add a setting that will provide a menu trimmed of background, framing graphics, and visual effects? It could perhaps be shrunk down to a solid color titlebar with the dynamic arrow ball logo.

Programms in the menu which are not installed...

Submitted by Teuchtlurm on December 4, 2006 - 8:39am

Hello,

nice idea, the PAS. I used the base edition, adding port. firefox, thunderbird, filezilla, feedreader and miranda to it.

But I've got three other "apps-icons" in the application-window:
- Firebird SQL Server (twice)
- Inno setup.

Neither I use the programs nor I know them! In the portableapps-folder there are just the programmfolder of the apps I above-mentioned.

My questions: Why are these apps in the application-window, and, first of all, how can I remove them?

regards,

Teuchtlurm

Rename Menu Items

Is it possible to change the program names that appear in the PortableApps Menu? I have installed Audiograbber. The .exe file is named audiograbber.exe but the menu shortcut says "Copies digital audio from Cd's. Freeware."

PortableApps Menu does not display well with large fonts on Win XP SP2

I dowloaded the full PortableApps Suite and the patch 1.01, and installed it on a fresh Kingston 1GB USB (non U3) Flash drive.

I have a screencapture and would like to forward it to the development team. You should consider to make the skin scalable.

Firefox Portable 2.0 saved forms does not function

Submitted by DEaD on December 3, 2006 - 10:23am

Firefox Portable 2.0 saved forms feature does not function when Firefox is run from the (root)\PortableApps\FirefoxPortable folder on a thumbdrive. Existing saved forms do not populate in fields. No new forms can be saved. Firefox won't even ask for the Master Password. I had to move and run it from (root)\Program Files\FirefoxPortable folder for it to function.

Notepad++ /PortableApp Menu oddity

Submitted by PollieXmas on December 1, 2006 - 7:12am

Hallo All,

I have noticed something strange even since I have copied Notepad++ into my PortableApps directory, i.e. to be able to use it from Portable Apps Menu.

Before when Notepad++ was in "Portable Program Files" on the root of the same drive that PortableApps Menu is installed, I could associate Notepad++ to all xml files.

Now, when I delete the f:\Portable Program Files\Notepad++ directory and then try and associate f:\PortableApps\Notepad++\Notepad++.exe to xml files, it does not recognise it as a program.

To associate files, I right click on a file, then choose "open with...", "Choose Program..." and then "browse..." for the program file.
