Two Platforms running, stop both to update

Submitted by RogerL on September 10, 2020 - 9:48am

I have one in the root of my drive with all my utilities and one in a VeraCrypt volume with KeePass, GnuCash, Thunderbird, a few other utilities and all my confidential documents.

It would be nice not to have to close both instances when one is updated. Could this be done and if not would appreciate knowing the technical reason why.

Cisco AMP for Endpoints quarantines platform 17.1 installer

Submitted by benh on September 8, 2020 - 6:30pm

Hi,

our corp has just enabled a new protection software for our PCs (Cisco AMP for Endpoints). The platform installer now is recognised as a threat and is 'quarantined'. The message is the file has been detected as W32.File.MalParent.

I cannot even complete a download now before it is detected and removed, so I cannot do a scan with other software.

What's your advice? Is it worthwhile trying to contact Cisco directly?

Monitoring autorun.inf

Submitted by PortableGood on September 4, 2020 - 10:10pm

The latest version of PAP includes an option to monitor for autorun.inf changes (defaulted to enabled).

What are the advantages/disadvantages of enabling or disabling this?

On the surface, it seems like if you don't manually edit autorun.inf while you have PAP running, there is no reason not to disable this functionality, but maybe I'm not seeing the whole picture.
