Trouble installing portable apps to a usb drive

Submitted by nosty on December 8, 2019 - 7:07pm

First of all, let me say that I love portable apps. I recently got a USB 2.0 TB drive and I wanted to install portable apps on it. I work as a volunteer at 2 local seniors residences and for some of them, Portable Apps does just the ticket. I was wondering if the problem is the default format is exFAT? I would really love to install Portable Apps onto this thumb drive.

Thanks,

Lary

Sync portable apps to windows start menu

Submitted by robert2019 on November 22, 2019 - 8:47pm

I would like to sync the portable apps menu with the windows start menu. This can be achieved fairly easily by searching the portable apps folders for exe files and then copy and pasting as shortcuts in a folder called "portable apps" in

%ProgramData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\
OR
%AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\

The problem is that there are potenially many exe files which you don't really want to display e.g. minidump-analyzer.exe from firefox portable.

Add and Remove from PATH

When I start up the platform, I would like a setting to allow me to PREpend portable app directories to my PATH environment variable. When I shutdown the platform, I would like those items removed from the altered PATH.

The purpose of this is to put portableapps in the front of the line for CLI. For example, there might be an older version of a program installed to the system I am using. I want my newer portableapp version to be found first on a command line prompt.

Regarding: - PortableApps.com Platform working on Linux operating systems

I am considering installing a Linux operating system on my PC.

Will PortableApps.com Platform work on any or all Linux operating systems and will all portable apps work on my Linux OP if they are installed on the PortableApps.com Platform?

If this (PortableApps.com Platform) was a way for all portable apps to work on any or all Linux operating systems, it would expand portableapps.com and the Linux operating systems.
