file associations with vbscript

Hi there,
thought I'd make a small contribution...
Using portable apps for a while now as my main apps. That means there's a the strict minimum installed on my c: partition to keep the system clean.
What had been bugging me was that the file association was not integrated in the system. I tried coffee and some others but I prefer a more direct approach, since all my portableApps are permanently on my d: partition. So here's a (little) vbscript to do just that. Tested on win7x64. Edit at your convenience, save in a text file with vbs extension and double-clic.

PortableApps under Windows 10

Submitted by AllenLStarr on June 3, 2015 - 12:04pm

Windows 10 will contain a new security feature called Device Guard:
"Microsoft's new Device Guard is aimed at blocking zero-day attacks by vetting applications that try to access a Windows 10 machine and its network. It basically blocks any applications that are not signed by specific software vendors, the Windows app store, and an enterprise itself."

Does/Will PortableApps satisfy the Windows 10 criteria for Device Guard?

How Do I Install More Than One Portable Application at a Time

Submitted by bobsowle on June 1, 2015 - 11:23am

I downloaded 245 portable applications. The Portable Apps platform only allows installation of one application at a time. There should be a batch file or option to install multiple applications one after the other. is there such a thing? What would I need to do to write a batch file that installs all of the applications put in an install folder?

Platform won't exit if thumb drive is read only

Submitted by melgish on May 26, 2015 - 8:08am

Using 12.0.5.

Recently a policy change where I work has made all thumb drives read-only--or maybe just the one I own. Since then I've discovered that the platform won't exit. Instead it pops up an error indicating that the INI file can't be updated.

It would be awesome if someone would change this error to include Yes/No buttons and "Exit anyway" in the text.

Failing that, I'm open to suggestions or a work-around. The same policy prevents me from killing the app once started, and the machine takes nearly 12 minutes to shut down.

Thanks

Platform App List

Submitted by clayto on May 2, 2015 - 12:43pm

I am completely new to Portable Apps and to the Platform so this might me a dumb question. I have just started looking at the Platform and noticed that some of my (as yet, few) portable apps are not listed, for example Firefox and Glary Utilities. Is this because the Platform only lists apps downloaded from PortableApps, com or for some other reason?

How select platform (32 or 64 bit) for a PortableApp that uses separate installers?

Submitted by SAbboushi on April 29, 2015 - 7:34pm

I just installed PortableApps on W764. Looks like I'm going to start going Portable as much as I can going forward.

I selected several apps that I've previously installed using windows installers such as ditto.

Ditto has a 32 bit and 64 bit installers; PortableApps installed the 32 bit version. Same with 7-zip...

Is there someplace to override this, or will I just need to manually install programs like ditto 64bit when this happens... and then manage updates in the future instead of having PortableApps do that?

Thanks--
Sam
