Toucan

Hi there,
unfortunately I am having problems too. I have removed the old version and installed fresh, but this did not solve the problem. When I select a source and destination, set the function to equalise and click preview the application crashes. Copy works fine, mirror OK, Move crashes, (restart) clean OK.
If you require more details please let me know.

I tried German and French.

Both quits with an english error: cannot find archive.

If you select English, all works fine.

used settings:
Backup type complete
Format 7Zip

Shortly after upgrading Toucan to 3, our McAfee scanner deleted portions of Toucan 3.

Message: VirusScan Alert! Your PC has been infected by malware or an unwanted program.
Name: C:\PortableApps\Toucan\msvcr90.dll
Detected as: Artemis!7321F055DAC1
State: Deleted

How do I retrieve the previous version of Toucan?

After dragging the files to be decrypted and clicking RUN, no password prompt appears and the program starts decrypting in vain. How do I get the password prompt to appear?

This is what it says:

I have a directory on drive C, call it MyStuff. Size is about 180 MB. I have a backup on a stick, let's say it is drive E. With Toucan 2.?? I can change a couple of files on C, run sync and get a back up on E: in less than a minute. XP machine.

I *installed* (updating didn't work) Toucan 3 and ran a sync. It copied everything, taking about 6 minutes. Without making any changes, I reran the sync. Again, it copied everything and took about 6 minutes. It was as if the files did not exist on E:.

So given the large number of similar questions that have popped up after the Toucan 3 release I thought I would write a longish post here to summarise for everyone where we are now and what will happen next!

Job updating bug

This bug is totally my fault and I completely dropped the ball on it. No data is lost or corrupted with this bug, it simply means that your existing jobs will not load. You can either wait for the next release for this to be solved or fix it yourself, the lines needed to do so are:

For Sync jobs

CheckSize=0
CheckTime=0

After reading the manual, I'm learning to accept that the file checks use checkboxes instead of radio buttons. Alas, what happens when you check no boxes?

Speaking of the manual, the "Uninstalling Toucan" section uses the term "installation" instead of "uninstallation" ("If Toucan is not for you then...installation is very straightforward").

I have had a number of issues with version 3 that have forced me to go back to version 2.2.1 until they can be resoled:

1 - Where did the Help tab go? This was useful to clarify the terms 'Mirror' and 'Equalise' etc. Also helped deciphering the cryptic colors on the preview.

2 - Preview option does not appear work - shows no changes when I know changes have been made.

3 - Preview option no longer expands the base folder, would be nice if it behaved as previous versions did.

I've come across a couple snags since upgrading and hope you can help me.

Upgrade = Jobs Not Working

This morning I upgraded from Toucan 2.2.0 to 3.0 - standard stuff, no errors or issues.

Now when I start Toucan, the splash screen appears then there is a pause after which Windows pops up a box saying "Toucan.exe has stopped working".

This is with Windows 7, 64-bit.

Have downgraded back to 2.2.0 for now. That is working OK.
