help with sync

Submitted by gjjh25 on January 21, 2010 - 1:14pm

I dont know if someone can help withthis. I have been usin sync back for a long time but would like to go portable with my syncs.

At the moment using sync back say i have drive c sourec and g destination, but they are set to sync.

If i work on the g drive e.g rename a folder and then sync thefolder on c is also renamed.

But i have tried the same thing with Toucan today and what happened was thatthe older folder was still there and also the renamed folder was copied over as a new folder.

Rules Help - Windows Personal Folder

Submitted by gboutwell on January 15, 2010 - 12:00pm

I'm not having a lot of luck with the rules necessary to do a good job (without errors, excluding non-necessary, etc) backing up the Personal Folder in Windows. Does someone have a good set of rules for backing up Windows Personal Folders. I would like to back-up nearly everything (Outlook mail, Windows Live Mail, Internet History but not Temporary Internet files, not temp folder, not other system folders, etc) not just documents, pictures, etc.

Always checking MD5 ?

Submitted by Cfaucheux on January 11, 2010 - 12:35pm

Hi everybody.

In sync/mirror mode, is Toucan always comparing the files by computing their hash ?

I am following this procedure as a test:

I have a folder containing one big file that I want to sync (mirror) on a NAS.
First sync runs fine, the content of the source folder is copied on the destination.

Second sync, no modification on the content of the source folder. The timestamps and sizes of the two files are identical, but the MD5 is computed (I know it because the whole file is transfered over my network).

Script won't work on shut down

Hello,
I created a sync job.
Then I created a batchfile. The batchfile works fine.
But if the batchfile starts on windowsXP log off script nothing happens.
This is the batch file:

Rem batchfile
echo Start %date% %time% >>C:\Temp\logTouCan.txt
C:\Programme\Toucan\Toucan jobname
echo End %date% %time% >>C:\Temp\logTouCan.txt
Rem end batchfile

This is what I see in my logfile logTouCan.txt:
Start 11.01.2010 11:52:25,02
End 11.01.2010 11:52:25,27

Regex - my rule is applied both to folders and files

I am running Toucan 2.2.1 and try to set up a regular expression rule that selects all folders ending with _A (i.e. excludes all folders except those ending with _A). The expression I use is *[^_][^A]$ and select 'Folder to exclude'. The correct folders are selected but no files are selected (except those ending with _A), so it applies the rule also on the files within the folder. This must be a bug.

Empty dialog box in Windows Vista PE

Submitted by Pa on December 29, 2009 - 5:45am

Hello to all,

many thanks for the great program Tucan.

I want to use the program Tucan in Windows Vista PE.

By opening the dialog box “select a folder” you get an empty dialog box.
In this dialog box you can't enter a target folder.

Probably there is missing a DLL of the Internet Explorer wich
is not available in Windows Vista PE.
Is there a way to use an other dialog box or use this
empty dialog box with other parameter for the DLL-Call.

I am not a Windows Shell expert but I suppose that you use
an API function like SHBrowseForFolder.
