Firefox Portable

download does not resume if drive letter is changed

Submitted by moc_tod on September 21, 2010 - 12:13pm

I started to download a file to a UFD at drive F then I paused the download and tried to resume later in a different computer where the UFD was assigned to drive G

The download failed with the following message:

F:\Documents\Videos\sample.f4v could not be saved, because an unknown error occurred.
Try saving to a different location.

Is it a bug or download portability is not supported?

Both computers are Windows 7 Ultimate, FF 3.6.10

Thanks

Java update 21 crashes Firefox portable 1.0

Submitted by blascowitz on September 21, 2010 - 12:04pm

Hello,

im working with a Firefox Portable V 1.0.8.

On a computer where Java is running, Firefox isn't working when Java update 21 is installed. If I try to start the app I receive the following message in an error-prompt: The new Java Plug-In requires a recent version of the Firefox browser (Firefox 3 or later). After deinstalling the Java update it works again.

Does anyone know how I can prevent my browser against this "update"?

thx for help

Redistributing the Portable Firefox installer

Submitted by elegie on September 20, 2010 - 1:25am

If one were to redistribute the unmodified binary installer for the Mozilla Firefox Portable Edition software, whether commercially or non-commercially, would it be necessary to include any additional source files in order to comply with licensing requirements? (Probably not, but the answer is not totally clear.)

Hi guys!

I've just downloaded Firefox 3.6.9 and manually updated some addons after installing it and noticed that after clicking the "restart" button that is provided when the addons have finished installing the firefox launcher exe stopped running (obviously thinking firefox had exited) and firefox reopened IN AN UNPORTABLE STATE.

Firefox has left two files and a couple of folders under C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Mozilla\

I will try opening and closing firefox to see if it will clean up and post back Smile

No more FF4 betas?

Submitted by saronno on September 16, 2010 - 1:58am

I noticed that no new versions of Firefox Portable Edition 4.0 Beta have been released after Beta3 on 13 august, while in the mean time Beta4, 5 and 6 have been released from Mozilla.

Is there a particular reason for that or is it just a matter of time or a coincidence?

Obviously I'm not complaining at all; just curious.

Adding Google Voice plugin

Submitted by portablealpha on September 15, 2010 - 8:58pm

Just wanted to let people know how I got the Google Voice plugin to work so that I could use the "Call Phone" feature from within gmail. This is *not* elegant but it's the only way I could figure it out because the target computer is behind some nasty firewalls (and the Google Voice installer isn't allowed to call home to download its files).

1. Install the Google Voice plugin on your home computer.
2. Locate the Google Voice and Video Accelerator plugins in FF using about:plugins.
3. Copy those to your Firefox Portable plugins directory on the flash drive.

Firefox Portable, beta... 5?

Submitted by shanet on September 14, 2010 - 11:01pm

Hey guys,

Ive done something who people might be interested in doing themselves.
I downloaded firefox 4 beta 4 portable edition from here at PA.com
I also went to Mozilla's site and downloaded firefox beta 5.
Then, I ran the portableapps.com installer and the firefox 4 beta 5 installer
Canceled portableapps.com when it wanted to connect to the internet to download the files, and copied the fresh install of beta 5 to the 'app\firefox' directory
Seems to work fine.
