Firefox Portable

4.0b2 and W2K

Submitted by the-edmeister on July 28, 2010 - 3:26am

Portable 4.0b1 worked fine on W2K, but Portable 4.0b2 just shows the Portable Apps splash screen and never launches - no process in the Task Manager. There's no RtlCaptureContext error message, like with the Minefield nightly's after or on 07-08. If W2K is no longer supported, there should be a notice on the download page; but I hope John is able to come up with a fix for Portable Firefox like he did here - http://johnhaller.com/jh/mozilla/windows_95/ - for Firefox 1.5.x.x.
LOL, wishful thinking on my part.

I think this is the appropriate Bug report about what is broken.

FFp 3.6.8 installation error

Submitted by foxcole on July 24, 2010 - 1:17pm

Trying to install FF 3.6.8, I get this error:
Error opening file for writing.
x:\PortableApps\FirefoxPortable\App\Firefox\AccessibleMarshal.dll

I re-downloaded 3.6.8 a couple of times, to make sure it wasn't a corrupted download. I am installing over 3.6.7.

If I "ignore" the file to continue the installation I get the same error for App\Firefox\LICENSE and then for README.txt, application.ini, blocklist.xml -- and that's where I aborted the installation.

FFp 4 beta 1 doesn't recognize the flash plugin

Submitted by Zalica on July 22, 2010 - 12:06pm

I download FFp 4beta1 and I put NPSWF32.dll(the version is 10.1.53.64) in the \FirefoxPortable\Data\plugins folder but FFp doesn't recognize it.
Maybe it's a bug here?Does anyone have the same problem as I do?

PS: the real problem is : FFp 4 beta 1 can't recognize the directory which contains chinese character.

Firefox 4.0 Beta 1 (minor issue with label in the Platform)

Submitted by RaggieSoft on July 20, 2010 - 6:43pm

Something very minor, but I have Firefox 3.6.6 in the {Drive}\PortableApps\FirefoxPortable folder and Firefox 4.0 B1 in {Drive}\PortableApps\FirefoxPortableTest folder and they both show up as "Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition".

For now, easy enough to workaround: hover mouse over both to see which one is which.

Can't start Multiple Instances of FF

Hi gang,

I am having trouble getting a second instance of FF to run, I have set the .ini file appropriately and it's being read as the splash screen is now disabled but I can not get a second instance to run.

Here's the strange part, with my Task Manager up I start another instance of FF and I can see the second copy listed for about three seconds then it goes away, almost as if it's told to terminate, no error messages or warnings of any kind. I read several other posts concerning the .ini file but nothing that lead me to a resolution.

Local Html File Paths Are Messed Up

Submitted by johnywhy on July 19, 2010 - 4:12pm

hello

when i double-click a local html file, the filename incorrectly gets incorrectly changed to the old dos 8-character naming, and spaces are treated as separate files.

for example, if i double-click a local file called:
C:\Users\john\Documents\Clients\Jeffrey\Footprints\Walking Tour\avatar\googleMapsAPItest.html

firefox portable opens the following two tabs:

file:///C:/Users/john/DOCUME~1/Clients/Jeffrey/Footprints/Walking

http://www.tour.com/avatar/googleMapsAPItest.html

how can i fix this?
