Firefox Portable

Installing Plugins (Flash, Shockwave, etc.)

Can someone update the information in above mentioned section?

Since ages you can't choose in the Shockwave installer which browser you want to install it in, because it bluntly installs itself within Windows.

Installing Flash Player via the XPI doesn't seem to work anymore either. It used to before but now it's complaining about a missing install script or something like that (error 204).
It might be something missing in a previous install, I don't know for sure at the moment.

my FF is installed at G:\PortableApps\FirefoxPortable. i would like to back up my bookmarks, but i can't find the file. i did find G:\PortableApps\FirefoxPortable\Data\profile\bookmarkbackups\bookmarks-2009-12-05.json but i guess this is a backup not the real bookmark file.

Firefox Portable inside Virtual PC 2007

Submitted by sblandin on December 4, 2009 - 11:35am

Hello there,

at work I use a virtual machine loaded inside virtual PC 2007 most of the time.

Since I don't want to install a lot of application in it, I tought to map a directory inside the virtual machine to the usb key containing Portable Apps plugged in the host system.

The platform loads smoothly, because the menu is as it should be and it even changes my wallpaper. I am also able to run and use Pidgin.

Firefox however load and run but extensions and bookmarks are all disabled. Even the address bar is not working.

FF not loading

Hi all,

I just installed the PortableApps package on my USB stick. All programs run as advertised except Firefox (3.5.5). It fails to load any pages. Chrome works fine from my stick, and connectivity from my work PC running IE is fine.

I guess it's a bad install?

Advice appreciated.

Popup blocker setting not saved/cannot permanently store security exception

Submitted by grmcdorman on November 26, 2009 - 3:32pm

1. When I enable a pop-up from a site such as Google Mail, this is not permanently saved; the next time I run I need to enable it again. (Also available from Tools|Options..., Content Tab, dialog from Block Popup Windows Exceptions button).

2. Security certificate exceptions cannot be permanently stored (Tools|Options..., Advanced Tab, Encryption Tab, click View Certificates, and then in the new dialog click Add Certificate). If the 'Permanently Store This Exception' is checked, clicking Confirm Security Exception does nothing.
