Firefox Portable

Relative paths or variables for use in bookmarks

Submitted by JeS on June 11, 2020 - 8:41am

Hi All,

just about to create a portable document library using FFP as viewer.
The content should walk with the browser: created a doc folder inside ":\PortableApps\DocuFoxPortable\Data\"
(* "DocuFoxPortable" = the re-named FFP folder)

all bookmarks for files in local storage get added with absolute path
"file:///--DriveLetter--:/PortableApps/..."
When changing them manually to "file:///Data/DocuFoxFiles/--Filename--" the files don't get found

Installed and portable version

Hi,

a general question, but since i'm asking because of FIrefox i created this topic in the Firefox Subforum.

Can i use an installed version next to a portable one? Especially at the same time? Without loss or corruption of any data?

I'm asking because of the folders FIrefox portable creates at start and deletes at closing...

Thanks.

Windows Drive Subst - Firefox and Thunderbird loose their extensions

Submitted by GavinHolt on June 7, 2020 - 12:11pm

Hi

I always use "subst p: %CD% >nul 2>nul" to mount my portable drive.
This has given very good service over many years.

I am new to PortableApps and love Firefox/Thunderbird - specifically because Firefox takes it's full profile on the stick (unlike Chrome).
However, when I add extensions they disappear when I move to another computer and am allocated a differnet initial drive letter.
I can carry them *.xpi and "install from file" - every time - but it's a pain.

Bug / feature request

1. Firefox ESR Portable cannot start after Tor Portable

I see this as a bug because I can start Tor Portable AFTER I start Firefox ESR but not the other way around.
Firefox detected there was another instance of Firefox running and failed to start.
Tor portable do not have this restriction. Would the development team please port the relevant code from Tor to fix this please.

multiple instances ?

I am on the mozila site too because FF-portable suddenly does the weirdest thing. In short: when I click a link in mail or anywhere else a NEW instance of firefox portable seems to start, with a different profile. Same exe, 2 different profiles from 2 different locations on my pc.

Question from the person that has been very helpful on mozila forums:

"-no-deelevate" as user_pref() ? For PortableApps Firefox?

Submitted by pstein on May 8, 2020 - 12:48am

As you know it is NOT possible (any more) to drag & drop URLs from Firefox to Windows Explorer in newer Firefox any more.

As a solution serves the commandline flag "-no-deelevate".

So when users call

D:\tools\firefox.exe -no-deelevate

Drag & Drop is possible again.

Ok, now I installed Firefox Portable from PortableApps:
