Scrapbook and other extensions + newbie questions

Submitted by dave.busch on March 13, 2008 - 10:24am

I'm a new user to portable apps from a thumb drive. I think its a great idea. I'm still a little shaky on installs - I'm running firefox from my USB drive and I'm trying to install Scrapbook - I'm not allowed - an error keeps popping up - do I need to do something differently to install add-ons using this set up.

USB 1.1 load times

I know this setup is far from ideal, but how long should it take FFP to launch using a USB 1.1 port in Win 98? I double click the FirefoxPortable.exe, the splash screen comes up & disappears, then....nothing. I've tried letting it sit for 10-15 minutes and nothing ever happens. If I CTRL-ALT-DEL, I see both FirefoxPortable and Firefox listed. I have to End Task on both and they come up Not Responding. The device I'm using is a 256MB USB 2.0 drive. Is it really that slow to load using a USB 1.1 port?

Firefox 3 Beta 4 - user logged in?

Submitted by PollieXmas on March 12, 2008 - 3:28am

Hi John,

When you go to the home page, you are taken to the google search page with a user already logged in to it.

You have the option to sign out, but fortunately cannot edit the (gmail) account in question.

Not sure if this is a problem in the source code or a problem on the website(search page) so I'm logging it here and on the FF feedback page.

Paul

@ John Reg Left with Beta 4

Submitted by Devo on March 11, 2008 - 1:54pm

After running the latest Beta with no additional extensions or add-ons installed, I found that a single registry entry is left after firefox is closed (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\mozilla.org\Mozilla\CurrentVersion). This entry is also left with 2.0.0.12 so I'm thinking it has something to do with my computer. The only way I can get rid if it is to delete the value manually. Again I hope that it is just the computer I am using, is there something I'm not doing? Any help would be appreciated.

Flash player

Submitted by PresidentDunn on March 10, 2008 - 10:05pm

How can I download flash player so that it can be used by my Firefox portable? I'm unable to view movies in firefox that need flash player, but it won't read the flash player from my local computer with flash, even though on internet explorer, I can view it just fine.
Any suggestions?

No Sound on Videos

Submitted by dbrightwell on March 10, 2008 - 8:44pm

Whenever I try the play a vidoe, such as on YouTube or a Yahoo news video, there is NO SOUND. The video plays fine. The sounds are all enabled. Just NO SOUND. I have Flash installed, but I'm not certain if it is working. It's only on my portable drive, not on the main computer.

Using Firefox Portable to open AIM uri's with Pidgin Portable

Submitted by redfive on March 10, 2008 - 8:04pm

While browsing with Firefox Portable, I would like to open AIM uri's (aim:goim?screenname=JohnDoe)using Pidgin Portable. Is it possible and how? Or is it something that would require registry edits on the machine?

Also, if this has been addressed elsewhere, please let me know what search terms you used to find the answer, as I've been racking my brain to figure it out.
