Using Firefox Portable over a network share

Submitted by rpycroft on March 17, 2008 - 9:54am

Hi, is there any way to use Firefox Portable for multiple users over a network share? I know there is an MSI available somewhere to do the normal install but I think it'd be easier to keep track of it over a network share. Whenever I try to run 2 instances of it on 2 seperate PCs it says that it's already running (but when I try and run one it works ok). I've tried the AllowMultipleInstances=true change to the .ini file but doesn't seem to affect anything.

Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks.
Richard.

FFP Not recognising .htm files...

Submitted by thetasigma2 on March 15, 2008 - 9:44am

Ok, started using FFP after a long while to browse more easily at my local community centre and for some odd reason it is failing to recognise .htm files.

It gives me the option to save them or open with default application (Internet Explorer 7). So I tried change this to "other application... > Mozilla Firefox" then it decided to download to my C: drive and opened it in a new tab in non-complete form as it was trying to rename all the links on the page to places on the C: drive...

Firefox launcher

I would like to have the latest Firefox Portable launcher, but don't want to download the full install.

The reason for this is that I'm updating my localizated version for a long time now and don't want to lose all the stuff I've done to it so far.

There is a way to download only the exec file? (FirefoxPortable.exe)

Thanks in advance. Smile

Scrapbook and other extensions + newbie questions

I'm a new user to portable apps from a thumb drive. I think its a great idea. I'm still a little shaky on installs - I'm running firefox from my USB drive and I'm trying to install Scrapbook - I'm not allowed - an error keeps popping up - do I need to do something differently to install add-ons using this set up.

USB 1.1 load times

I know this setup is far from ideal, but how long should it take FFP to launch using a USB 1.1 port in Win 98? I double click the FirefoxPortable.exe, the splash screen comes up & disappears, then....nothing. I've tried letting it sit for 10-15 minutes and nothing ever happens. If I CTRL-ALT-DEL, I see both FirefoxPortable and Firefox listed. I have to End Task on both and they come up Not Responding. The device I'm using is a 256MB USB 2.0 drive. Is it really that slow to load using a USB 1.1 port?
