Firefox (at least 2.0.0.12) leaves some (irrelevant) data behind?

Submitted by Kriss on March 25, 2008 - 10:01pm

Greetings!
It's not a big deal, but looks like my Firefox Portable 2.0.0.12 leaves folder in %HomeDrive%%HomePath%\Application Data\Mozilla\Extensions\{ec8030f7-c20a-464f-9b0e-13a3a9e97384}

As I understand this ID means "Theme" (at least I found it in every theme)
Also with Flash Player 9.0.115 it leaves file with some related stuff in similar place somewhere in .\Application Data\Mozilla\ but this file disappears sometimes, so I'm not able to tell right now what was there...

Similarly I found .\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Crash reports\ with two files:

InstallTime2008030714

FireFox always looses all of it´s settings :-(((

I´m sure this has been asked before, but I am in patgonia ans the internet here is costly and slow for effective searching.

Every time I boot portable FF 1.5, it seems to pick up it´s setting from the installations on the local pc. It resets my homepage, begins auto updating, trashes my bookmarks and all my set options are lost. Also all my forms and history are lost. The last time I used it it updated itself and destroyed my book marks file.

Is there any way to avoid this?

Hah, I'm using Firefox 3.0b5pre Portable :P... Or am I? Is it this simple?

Yo!...
I've been testing the Firefox 3 Beta 4 Portable from this site... Then reporting that it has some bugs, I am told that I should try the latest trunk/version. This bug I reported: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=424228 and I was told that it was fixed in Firefox 3.0b5pre. Hmm to bad that a portable version is not out of that I thought to myself.

Firefox download manager problem

Submitted by molngab on March 23, 2008 - 4:33am

Hello!

I would like to use Orbit Download manager as default download manager with Firefox. But, I use the Portable version of Firefox!
My download manager can't detect the Firefox portable, although I set up the needed option in the Download manager. The IE the Opera are detectable by download manager, and the normal, installed version of Firefox, too.
How can I solve this problem?

Thanks

Why does FirefoxPortable phone home?

Submitted by zibeli on March 22, 2008 - 2:40am

I've been experimenting with FirefoxPortable run locally and according to my firewall, the firefox.exe it launches tries to connect to portableapps.com every time it starts, although I have set the home page to blank and turned off all the firefox options that would likely result in automatically contacting external servers (e.g. phishing checking, auto update checking). Call me paranoid, but I'm not a big fan of apps that silently "phone home" - can anyone tell me for what purpose the firefox binary launched by FirefoxPortable is trying to contact portableapps.com?

Thanks.

Firefox Splash change

Submitted by Infiniti on March 20, 2008 - 8:20pm

I know there are a billion of the same threads out there and I have read most of them. They are almost all locked. I am very confused and have spent all day trying to change the splash by editing "FirefoxPortable.nsi" with NSIS which I'm not getting very far. Bad I'm asking for lame step-by-step instructions that a idiot could follow. Help would be greatly appreciated. Smile

Launchy Problems

Submitted by dark_yux on March 20, 2008 - 8:02pm

I'm currently using Launchy (The Firefox Add-on) and it just stoped detecting Thunderbird Portable and I don't understand why. It detected everything else. :o I wrote the XML file correctly:Look on Google Docs, I couldn't get it to display properly here. It kept deleting the tags.
