Import large Fx bookmarks to portable Fx 2.0.0.4 crashes

Submitted by Fermat on June 4, 2007 - 11:44am

I had a large (545k) bookmark file in my regular Fx which I wanted to import to my USB stick and edit to remove stuff that I didn't want on the stick.
'import' in Manage Bookmarks in Portable Fx crashed.
Copied bookmarks.html to the stick and fired up portable Fx. As soon as I opened Bookmarks, Fx crashed.
Seems to be a size limit on the Bookmarks file.

found a workaround.
Installed Portable Fx to my HD, fired it up, imported the Bookmarks file OK, editted it down to what I wanted, copied this bookmarks.html (about 250k) to the stick. Works fine.

Firefox portable 2.4 not recognised by Portable Apps

Submitted by regedt on June 4, 2007 - 9:24am

Hi, I'd appreciate some help please. I've installed FF 2.4, (initially upgraded, then clean install, then re-install using the PortableApps gui), the icon does not appear in the list of applications, so I can't run it without browsing to the PortableApps\FirefoxPortable dir, once there FF starts correctly. I understand that running FF in this way will stop the "portability" from working - is this a registry issue? is it relevent to my problem. What can I do to get the Firefox app appear in the menu?
Thanks in advance.

What writes to the disk?

Submitted by SoulinEther on June 2, 2007 - 9:55pm

I wanted to know what features on Firefox Portable (well, natively in FIrefox I guess) write data to the disk it is on? I want to try to disable as much writing to my iPod as possible so that its memory can survive longer. Or my other thumbdrive that I use... or my CompactFlash card...

I looked at the Support page, and I can disable the Session restore, phishing detection... what else? Am I likely to find a way to 90-99% completely eliminate writing to the drive its running on?

Thanks. (And this is a very clever idea.)

FFP launcher doesn't launch FFP with themes/addons or other settings.

Okay, here's the deal. I bought a 2G Cruzer Micro and tried to copy everything from my old 1G OCZ Roadster onto it. Well, I ran into an issue that made me have to reinstall FFP under the PortableApps menu on the new drive. I copied all my settings/themes/addons from my PC installation of FF, but when I used the launcher, it defaulted back to the 'freshly installed' version of FF. I followed the instructions from the FFP page on Portableapps.com, but every time I use the Portableapps menu, it still goes back to minty fresh.

How can you go back and forth from local Firefox to Portable Apps Firefox ?

Submitted by oboist1 on June 2, 2007 - 4:56pm

I would like to download my local Firefoxbookmarks to my Portable Apps Firefox bookmarks. Then after collecting new bookmarks on my PortApps Thumbdrive merge all of the new bookmarks into my local computer Firefox booksmarks.

Can do ?

Using Firefox Portable as your default browser!

Submitted by xelemorf on June 1, 2007 - 4:08pm

Do you ever wondered to use your portable firefox as default engine on your machine.

I am using three firefoxes on different machines, with the same profile. Google browser sync makes the dirtywork for synchronizing them. If i have made a serious modification, i can simply copy the newest version of my portable app to the older versions of my FF.
