Firefox Portable

Using apps on both computer and flash drive

Submitted by swruler on February 6, 2007 - 4:56pm

I love portable apps, but I want a way to be able to use the firefox on my computer, and sync it with the firefox on my flash drive, and vice versa - with all the settings and bookmarks (cookies too, if possible) I've tried many things, but nothing works. Is there a simple way to do this?

I would also like to do it with thunderbird and the other programs.

*new user* Copied profile's extensions and bookmarks doesn't appear when using portable

I just installed Firefox Portable (Win XP Home) on my Fly Drive.
I copied the entire content of my Profile Directory from %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles to the D:\FirefoxPortable\Data\profile folder. I deleted the FirefoxPortableSettings.ini file. When Portable Firefox opens it appears like a new version of Firefox, no bookmarks, extensions, etc.
What did I do wrong?
Thanks!

FFP under Win98 does not recognize FirefoxPortable.ini

Submitted by hillschmidt on February 2, 2007 - 9:03am

I have a strange problem with FFP under Win98:

I renamed the launcher to Game2Go.exe, and also the executable in App/firefox from firefox.exe to FirefoxPortable.exe. In accordance to this I changed also the FirefoxPortable.ini which sits in the same directory as Game2Go.exe (=FirefoxPortable.exe) to that:
[FirefoxPortable]
FirefoxDirectory=App\firefox
ProfileDirectory=Data\profile
PluginsDirectory=Data\plugins
SettingsDirectory=Data\settings
FirefoxExecutable=FirefoxPortable.exe
AdditionalParameters=
LocalHomepage=htdocs\index.html
DisableSplashScreen=false

Will a Seagate Pocket Hard Drive and it's cache help w/ lag?

Submitted by valetz on February 1, 2007 - 12:18pm

Hi,

I've tried running off of a fast thumb drive, and I am currently using an SD card in an express 34 adapter.
I still get the pause or lag from creating bookmarks.

I was wondering if anyone had used one of these Seagate pocket hard drives.

I'm wondering if the fact that it has 2MB of cache will speed things up?

TIA,

Opened Portable w/o renaming. Now Firefox won't open.

I hope someone has a suggestion for me. I opened Firefox Portable on my home computer without renaming it. Now, my regular Firefox (1.5) install won't open. It shows in Task Manager as running, but no screen appears. Is there a way I can get it to run again w/o re-installing?

firefox slow to close

Submitted by oliparcol on February 1, 2007 - 5:12am

Hi,

I use firefox portable latest version (firefox and launcher) with a high speed usb key (corsair flash voyager). When I close firefox, the exe continue to work in the background for 1-2 min and I can't remove my key. I can close it with taskmanager but I think isn't the best way to do... Someone know why firefox still working when I close it ?

Thanks,
Oliparcol

Firefox Portable not Recognized by Yahoo Mail Beta

Submitted by dennis parrott on February 1, 2007 - 12:58am

i hope i haven't just overlooked this topic someplace... if i did, mea culpa.

i have used Portable FF 1.5.0.? for a long time to access Yahoo!s mail "beta". i got a spiffy new 2gb USB stick and decided to load the new "suite" package.

i have FF 2.0.? loaded on my laptop and it works with the Yahoo! mail beta site. (and continues to do so...)

Yahoo! whines that i need mozilla 1.7 or later (...and silly me, i figure that FFP 2.0 meets that requirement...) when i use FFP from the suite off of my new USB stick.
