New USB Drive, FF S L O W

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on March 31, 2006 - 9:35am

This week I got a new SanDisk Cruzer Micro 2GB b/c it was on sale for only $69. However, FF runs EXTREMELY SLOW.... I mean it takes 2+ minutes just to open; it takes 10+ seconds to switch to an already open tab; it takes 15+ seconds to open a new tab; and FORGET about clicking in one window and switching to another while the first link comes up!!!!

I've got an open support ticket with SanDisk--they had me reformat it, then download some Micro$oft app that verifies the authenticity of the USB device, and I've been left hanging since yesterday morning.

Is there ANYTHING that could be Firefox related here? I don't see how, b/c I copied everything off my USB drive, a Lexar 512MB. It runs EXTREMELY fast--especially compared to this one.

Copying Bookmarks—for Intermediate skilled user

I transport a portable hard-drive between my office and home. I was using Firefox on my computers at work and home even before I knew about Portable Firefox. Now that I've installed Portable Firefox on my portable hard-drive, I'd like to copy the many bookmarks I have accumulated in Firefox so that I have access to them from the portable hard-drive. For those times I leave the portable drive behind, I also want to have access to my bookmarks from either desktop computer. Is there a simple method for copying booksmarks from Firefox to Portable Firefox and vice versa?

Does portable firefox write anything to local disk/network?

Submitted by irv on March 30, 2006 - 5:08pm

I have asked my tech support if i could use portable firefox from a thumb drive, as i dont like IE. i got the following reply:

All the software on the University desktop has been installed, tested, and licensed to run on the University network. The browsers that are installed on the desktop have been configured and regularly updated for security issues. The security implications of portable Firefox have not been investigated by our development team at University i.e. is it the latest secure version?, does it affect the University desktop?, does it write to the hard disk/network?, does the software have malware? We generally do not like software that is not part of the University desktop PC’s to be run on University lab machines because of these unanswered questions and the possible problems they may cause to users and the network.

Hey

What would you guys think of the possibility to change the splashscreen?
So you can't only change the theme or the language of your favorite browser,
but also the splashscreen. And maybe there could come a section with the best
splashscreens, maybe a competition.

sorry for my bad English.

Just a note about Firefox and Updates...

This is more of a suggestion to the developer of Portable Firefox, who I hope reads these forums. I don't know if this has been mentioned before but please disable Firefox update by default in future releases. Or at least change the settings so that it won't automatically download and try to install updates. I launched Portable Firefox only to have it try to patch itself to 1.5.0.1 Of course the patch failed so it instead tried to download the entire 6.0 MB installer. I've disabled it myself as of now.

Pass2Go toolbar in Portable Firefox

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on March 24, 2006 - 3:15pm

I'm trying to properly link my Pass2Go (portable Roboform) password manager into Portable Firefox which resides on a SanDisk Titanium thumbdrive. My profiles have been copied from Roboform into Pass2Go fine, Pass2Go has been set to use PFirefox as it's default browser, and Pass2Go is set to display it's toolbar in the browser. Here's what currently happens:

1- If you open a log-in directly from Pass2Go it will open PFirefox to the correct site and log me in. No Pass2Go toolbar shows, however.

2- If you open PFirefox by itself, Pass2Go does not seem to exist on it. The toolbar does not show, and if I go to a site to log in Pass2Go does not open, not allowing me to fill the form automatically.
