Migrating from normal Portable FF 1.5.0.2 to the U3 version?

Submitted by MrChris on April 26, 2006 - 6:24pm

I currently have Portable FF 1.5.0.2 on my normal 2GB non-u3 drive. I now have a 4GB Sandisk Cruzer Micro U3 and have downloaded/installed the u3 version of FF from u3.com but how can I migrate all my extensions from the current version to the U3 version? Or is it just best to restall all my extensions? Im not new to this stuff but I am new to this U3 thing.

Thanks,

MrChris

Editing Portable FF

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on April 25, 2006 - 9:59pm

I have been having trouble modifying my portable firefox, I dont know if this is "allowed" by the creators, but I cant even use the INIs. Well, I can edit them but as soon as I restart Firefox, they revert to the old version.
My Main problem is that I am trying to edit the loading screen that is the picture of Portable FF and the USB cable, I edited and overwrote the file but when i Loaf Firefox, the old picture always appears. is there an imbedded file that I need to change? Please help me.

MS Word documents....open in Firefox?

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on April 25, 2006 - 6:19pm

I am still new to Firefox but I am loving it. Especially now I carry it with me on my flash drive. One thing I would like out of it would be able to view MS Word documents in the browser so I wont have to download and then view them on MS Word. Also it would be nice to be able to view Powerpoints on Firefox if possible. My work computer doesn't have those programs so it would be nice to just be able to view them in Firefox for simplicity.

Thanks,
Neil

Running a PDF viewing in Portable Firefox

Submitted by skoink on April 24, 2006 - 9:32pm

Hi all,

I'm sure I'm not thet first one who's wanted some sort of PDF solution from Portable Firefox, so I figured I'd post what I came up with.

1) I downloaded Foxit, the portable PDF reader, and dropped it in PortableFirefox\firefox.

2) In Firefox, I went to the download options, chose 'plug-ins', and disabled the PDF mime-type.

3) After I'd done this, I opened a PDF on the web, and told it to open using Foxit (by pointing it at the Foxit location), and to remember the preference.

4) Finally, I edited PortableFirefox\profile\Mimetypes, and I removed the path for the Foxit executable, so that the part pertaining to the Foxit reader read as follows:

1.5.0.2 Upgrade on Flash Drive Messed Up Firefox Hard Drive Uninstall

Submitted by dauge on April 24, 2006 - 9:04pm

Upgraded PFF to 1.5.0.2. on flash drive. Had no problem.

Needed to uninstall regular FF from my hard drive. Went to uninstall and the uninstaller was pointing to my flash drive and wouldn't do anything, got an error. This was apparently caused by the install on the flash drive.

Only way I could make uninstall on hard drive version work was to reinstall ff on hard drive and then do an uninstall.

What did I do wrong?

thx

Portable Firefox downloading vs. regular Firefox downloading

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on April 24, 2006 - 2:51pm

I have a problem with regular win32 Firefox where Firefox automatically downloads to the temporary directory in the background before I can choose a location to save to. The details of this are in my post in the mozillaZine forum for Firefox Support.

I have problems with address field and open location (Ctrl + L) function in
version 1.5.0.2 (but not in version 1.0.7). Both functions do not react. Of course I can write a new address but then nothing happen a new site is not opening.
I am grateful for explanations or comments!

Multiple Uncommon Problems...

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on April 21, 2006 - 7:13am

I have been snooping around the forum, but had no success in finding anyone with the same problem as me.
I seem to have multiple problems with mine as listed:
- I have a large gap which I can't get rid off underneath the status bar.
- I cannot open a new file or location.
- If I customize my toorbar settings, the main toorbar becomes disabled.
- I must view the "Manage Bookmarks" Window to actually see my bookmarks on the menu.

I found these bugs on mine within 5 min and I believe there may be more.
I reinstalled it with no sucess and I honestly believe my case is unique. I would like someone to help solve this matter as soon as possible.

Cannot unzip files

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on April 20, 2006 - 9:17pm

I want to install Portable Firefox on my account at school. I am not allowed to install programs or unzip folders. Aside from using a CD or USB device, how can I put the firefox files on my account? Are there any stand alone programs that will unzip a folder?
