Portable Firefox security

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on February 7, 2006 - 6:12pm

I have been using Portable Firefox for some time now. I am constantly using company computers or internet shops to access the web via Portable Firefox on my USB Stick. Are there any open source programs available to secure my web interactions from any Key Logging Programs or Administrator privileges that may gather sensitive data (as my online banking), while I am surfing?

Part 2 is it possible to use a Portable Virtual Keyboard while entering Sensitive data on websites to protect User Names, Passwords, and Account Details from the host computer while using Portable Firefox?

Primedius: WebTunnel or Stealth Surfer for example!

What does this mean and how can I fix it?

"Could not initialize the browser's security component.
The most likely cause is problems with files in your browser's
profile directory. Please check that this directory has no read/write restrictions and your hard disk is not full
or close to full. It is recommended that you exit the browser and fix the problem. If you continue tou use this browser session,
you might see incorrect browser behaviour when accessing security features."

I get this alert when using PortableFirefox. I am also having problems downloading upgrades such as Flash player, recieving this message.

"C:\docume~1\user\LOCALS~1\Temp\r9cy46pp.exe could not be saved, because the source file could not be read.

Errors when installing *some* extensions..

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on February 7, 2006 - 5:03am

Hey,

I know this is a common problem that people cant install some mods, or cant install *.xpi files etc. However, nobody seems to have given an exact error they get. I installed PFF onto my personal drive in college (I cant install anything anywhere else). However, on launching an extension or skin install half way through the procedure this error appears;

"Firefox could not install the file at [URL to extension] because: script error".

Sometimes its installed after I re-boot tho.

Any ideas? Its the same error when I go to "File > Open" and launch the xpi file I saved on the PC.

public computer = no page load

Hi, I have just started all this nomadic behaviour, simply because I am ditching my PC and am having to think of ways to get by using, eugh, public computers. FF on a USB seems good to me, especially with all the etx.!!!

Problem is IE's tools menu is blocked from access, and I cannot load the page in FF because I do not know the proxy settings. I have been scouring the net for a tool that can posibly get that info externally.

Can anyone help?

Thanks,

Running Portable Firefox on Multiple Systems Simultaneously?

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on February 6, 2006 - 3:21pm

I ran into portable Firefox the other day. Super work! I love the fact I can put it on my file server and then have any system on my network access and run Firefox.

However, it seems I can't run more than one session of Firefox. In other words, only one machine can run it at a time. Is this what it should be doing? Or is there capability to allow multiple computers to use it at the same time? Even if it is technically possible, would this violate any of the license terms?

Any assistance appreciated.

Absolute paths in PortableFirefox.ini does not work

Submitted by MoHaG on February 6, 2006 - 10:54am

I want to use Portable Firefox to run Firefox from my university's network space (which was recently increased to make this practical). However I want to share the main firefox directory with other users to save some space, letting each user keep just his/her own profile. (User copies PortableFirefox exe and a default ini and profile dir.) This also makes Firefox updates quick and easy.

I tried setting FirefoxDirectory in PortableFirefox.ini, but it does not work.

Is it possible to add support for absolute paths in the launcher? This will help a lot in this case.

The lines I tried that gave me a "firefox.exe not found" error:
