I've only ever used Firefox Portable on admin accounts, but last week I tried it in a controlled environment, and the results were disappointing.

I was running Portable Firefox 3.6 (official build) on a flash drive on a laptop running Vista Home Premium SP2 through the computer's Guest account. Firefox was installed, and connects to the Net without a proxy, but is loaded down with tons of badware, strange toolbars and the like. Portable Firefox wouldn't connect to anything. Google, the start page (start.portableapps.com) or a couple other sites.

Firefox config

Submitted by Aqualung on February 2, 2010 - 2:14pm

I have my PortableApps (including Firefox) installed in my Dropbox (which makes it the world's first genuine cloud-based OS Smile ). How come the computers that are synced with my Dropbox don't have the same Firefox configuration? They should, right? Say I install some Firefox add-on on one computer, I configure the add-on, and move to a different computer and start FireFox portable there. Then surprise! I have to configure the add-on on that computer as well! Why is that?

Why temp directory in c:/ upon startup?

Submitted by viscouse on February 1, 2010 - 9:21am

Everytime I fire up FFP from my USB drive, it creates a randomly named directory in C:\TEMP called nsa184.tmp. The format is actually NS***.tmp.
It contains the following files:
FindProcDLL.dll
newadvsplash.dll
registry.dll
splash.jpg
system.dll

They don't get deleted upon closure. Why are these here, and how can I make sure they go away after FFP closes?

firefox portable won't save settings after upgrade to 3.5.7

Submitted by backwash on January 31, 2010 - 3:12am

hey all,

I'm having an issue where evertime I launch firefox after upgrading to 3.5.7, the same 3 tabs pop up ("Welcome to Firefox", "Mozilla Firefox Start Page" and "DownloadHelper" which I added more than a year ago) even though I specify to save tabs after closing.

I am able to save bookmarks and I've tried deleting the "localstore.rdf" file but that didn't help at all.

No settings are saved any longer than the current session that I am using.

Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks

FFP extremely slow to load (3-5 minutes)

Submitted by MukoCBX6 on January 30, 2010 - 11:37am

Downloaded the latest version, purchased a new flash drive specifically for this purpose.

SO, how do I get this app to load in a shorter time than 3-5 minutes. (New Dell Quad Core, 4gb memory, Win7)

I have to simply walk away for a few minutes and then come back to the machine in order to use this app.

Read the FAQs and did a search but did not find any specific answers as to why and how.

Replaced taskbar icon?

Submitted by FH on January 25, 2010 - 4:51am

Hi there,

i have a problem with the Windows 7 taskbar and Mozilla Firefox Portable. After i've tried the prism addon my FirefoxPortable got a new ugly icon. It's really annoying to have new cool themes in Firefox 3.6 but an ugly icon. Is it possible to replace?

What i've tried so far:
- Put an icon set to App\Firefox\chrome\icons\default folder
- Put an icon set toData\profile\chrome\icons\default folder
- Reinstalling firefox
- Clear icon cache (%userprofile%\AppData\Local\IconCache.db)

Do you have any ideas how I can fix the icon?
