How to make sure that the portable firefox instance always uses the pdf viewer plugin within the portable app configuration?

Submitted by streamline on January 23, 2010 - 5:34pm

As I have been using and testing an app I am building for myself to make use of a instance of firefox portable, I noticed recently noticed that the Adobe PDF Plugin being used was that of whatever the local PC I was plugged into was using. I had thought since I provided the plugin and setup the portable firefox instance with a specific plugin for PDF, it would use the one I provided.

What is required in terms of files, configuration, etc for a portable firefox app to insure that it always uses the Adobe PDF plugin I want it to use?

Bookmarks gone! after install from 3.5.7 to 3.6

After upgrading Firefox Portable to 3.6 from your site (I previously had 3.5.7)I found that all my bookmarks are gone. I tried restoring with FEBE but when I choose the .json file I receive an error msg that it is not valid. I tried a backup from a different date but received the same error.
Any help would be appreciated.

Firefox Portable v3.6

I uninstalled the Firefox 3.0 version that came on the PortableApps.com Suite Standard, then installed Firefox 3.6. The thing is, though, I deleted the Firefox app link in the PortableApps.com platform. Now that I have the 3.6 version installed, there is no link. How can I get one there?

Upgraded to 3.6, now its slow!

Okay so I foolishly upgraded 3.5.7 to 3.6 by overwriting it instead of installing in a new folder.

I had previously done all the things you do to make firefox portable go fast (from following a guide online) and firefox was so fast it was better than my desktop version.

BUT now, I seem to be having an old problem I used to have where there would be intermittent pauses (sometimes lasting up to 15 seconds) in general use of firefox.

Unusual Java issue

I have an unusual issue that I wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions about resolving. I use Firefox Portable (running from the computer's hard drive) at work, but one application is unable to recognize that the needed version of Java is available. What makes it strange is that Zach Thibeau's version of GNU Icecat doesn't have the same problem. I have tried installing Java Portable with no success, although the minimum version of Java needed for the application is in the Java 5 series.

For those who are upgrading Firefox Portable to 3.6 RC 1, I thought I should give you the following notes.

1) Disable All-in-One Sidebar (AiOS) before upgrading, if you have this installed -- This add-on will cause a major visual malfunction & render 3.6 RC 1 inoperable.

2) Install Add-on Compatibility Reporter( https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/15003 ) -- This will allow you to enable add-ons that aren't originally supported for 3.6 RC 1 & lets you submit report for those so you can help the add-on developers as well as other users.
