Flash in FF3.6 doesn't work after OS upgrade

Submitted by foxcole on February 12, 2010 - 2:47pm

I've been using portable FF 3.6 since it was first released, running on Vista Home Premium, and all plugins and add-ons worked correctly.

But a couple of days ago I upgraded my OS to Windows 7 Home Premium, clean install (reformatted and started over). Now the Flash plugin doesn't appear to work, although NPSWF32.dll is there in the Data\Plugins folder.

I have not reinstalled Flash yet locally--I thought at first I wouldn't need to because I thought it was bundled with some other software. But to verify, I searched the hard drive for that dll and it's not there.

mozilla firefox, password protect firefox

-download firefox portable from https://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable.
-install it to say, d:\apps\firefoxportable.
-download zip.exe and unzip.exe from http://stahlworks.com/dev/index.php?tool=zipunzip.
-put them in d:\apps\firefoxportable dir.
-copy 2 vbs files to d:\apps\firefoxportable dir (see end of this text).
-Optional: make copy of your d:\apps\firefoxportable\data\profile dir, or rename it to d:\apps\firefoxportable\data\profile2

-optional (warning this will delete your profile settings!!!):

[Closed] FirefoxPortable2ndProfile works only with default paths

Meh, why hard-coding all the paths in a portable release. Paradox and not customizable Sad
Have a look at Diashapes Portable (not supported anymore, works with Dia 0.97 only) and Dia Portable. User could set custom install paths, settingsdirectory, appdirectory ... and with the proper ini-entries it just works. Always.

Oh, and there is a major bug:

Firefox 3.7 Alpha 1

Submitted by ksc3 on February 10, 2010 - 11:45pm

Dear Mr. Haller,

I just wanted to mention that the Firefox Portable (Minefield) 3.7 Alpha 1 download will no longer install because the Minefield has upgraded to FF 3.7 Alpha 2. It's not a big deal, but I just thought I would mention it.

Sincerely,
Kent Coley

Firefox slow, throws up script errors and crashes - Windows XP

Submitted by Sin Mafia on February 8, 2010 - 10:16am

I just installed Portable Apps suite for the first time on a 4GB hard drive. I have tried to run Firefox and each time it takes about 5 minutes to start up and before it finishes loading it states that it cannot run a script if I continue it eventually loads but then crashes. I just tested it on Windows Vista and Firefox works fine, it only fails on Windows XP. Any suggestions?

Portable Fx can't connect to Net but Installed Fx can

I've only ever used Firefox Portable on admin accounts, but last week I tried it in a controlled environment, and the results were disappointing.

I was running Portable Firefox 3.6 (official build) on a flash drive on a laptop running Vista Home Premium SP2 through the computer's Guest account. Firefox was installed, and connects to the Net without a proxy, but is loaded down with tons of badware, strange toolbars and the like. Portable Firefox wouldn't connect to anything. Google, the start page (start.portableapps.com) or a couple other sites.

Firefox config

Submitted by Aqualung on February 2, 2010 - 2:14pm

I have my PortableApps (including Firefox) installed in my Dropbox (which makes it the world's first genuine cloud-based OS Smile ). How come the computers that are synced with my Dropbox don't have the same Firefox configuration? They should, right? Say I install some Firefox add-on on one computer, I configure the add-on, and move to a different computer and start FireFox portable there. Then surprise! I have to configure the add-on on that computer as well! Why is that?
