Firefox Portable

corrupted extention - cannot run Firefox or delete folders

Submitted by socal on September 15, 2008 - 4:17pm

Somehow an extension corrupted my Firefox portable. Everything worked great for many months and until this morning. Whenever I started FF-P the splash screen would show and FirefoxPortable.exe & firefox.exe would show up in the Processes tap of the Windows Task Manager. A couple of seconds later both instances of firefox in the Processes tab would disappear. I tried reinstalling FF-P - this dis not fix the problem.

The Bookmarks file

Where exactly does FFP store bookmarks?
I have "Bookmarks.html" files in several locations in my portable folder.
Namely in:
FirefoxPortable\Data\profile
FirefoxPortable\App\DefaultData\profile
FirefoxPortable\App\firefox\defaults\profile

The funny thing is, that even if I delete all these .html files, FFP still remembers my bookmarks!

I'd like to have a single bookmark file so that I easily can sync my FFP bookmarks to my FF bookmarks on my home computer (I use another program, Toucan, for syncing).

Able To Revert From FF-3 Back To 2?

Submitted by KMGC on September 13, 2008 - 12:59pm

I'm still on the fence on whether or not I want FF-3 with all of its changes and asked about it over at FireFox Support:

http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=846065

Someone suggested I try FFP-3.
Ah, that's an idea. I then asked some questions about it and was directed here:
Other than being portable and self contained, what is the difference?
More to the point, what is the advantage of having the regular FF over the portable? Is there a (lower?) limit (e.g.) to the size of the bookmark file/folder and/or restriction to the number and types of add-ons available?

Add-Ons have stopped working

Submitted by keyblader1985 on September 12, 2008 - 3:47pm

I have Firefox Portable version 2.0.0.16 installed on my flash drive, and I hadn't had any problems with it for a long time. Then just the other day, all my add-ons suddenly stopped working, even though it says that they're enabled. I can't do anything to get them to work now. I haven't manually updated anything, but I guess something might have automatically updated or something.

No Images addon?

Submitted by eaklandc on September 11, 2008 - 2:59pm

I use Firefox Portable running on a flash drive and using my AT&T phone connected to my laptop to access the internet. Its a 230kbps connection but it would be nice to have an addon that i can quickly turn on and off loading images. this way when browsing forums it would just be a redx or just the outline of where the image would be, but if i want to see the pictures i can move up and turn it on and the page reloads with images.

anyone know of anything like this? or any other add on that will make a "dial-up" connection faster?

change firefox.exe filename

Submitted by onesixtyfourth on September 11, 2008 - 5:06am

Hi,

our IT department has added firefox to our virus list and the file firefox.exe gets deleted when you attempt to run it. To get around this I need to change the executables name but I can't find where I do this. I have looked through some of the files inside FirefoxPortable and found settings that appear to be pointing to the executable but changing these does not work. Is there a way I can do this.

Profiles

Submitted by schwooba on September 9, 2008 - 12:00pm

Howdy...is there a way to setup a profile that will work with FFPE? I tried using the firefoxportable.exe --profilemanager, but it doesn't work. Or does anyone else have an idea of how to secure FF so I only need to login once and then I can access all my saved passwords, cookies etc? Truecypt would be great, but it requires admin rights to secure an entire USB.

Thanks in advance.
