Where's the cache?

Submitted by fergus on January 17, 2019 - 2:14am

Just started using Firefox again after a while: portable v.64.0.2.
In the past after exiting I have successfully accessed the Firefox cache using Nirsoft's "MZ CacheViewer" which is available at
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/mozilla_cache_viewer.html
(It's a really good utility, but BTW does PortableApps have an equivalent?)
For ages (years) the Firefox cache was located at Data\profile\cache2.
Now if I point MZ CacheViewer to this location it seems to be empty. And:

Update to new Firefox?

Submitted by hecate on January 14, 2019 - 1:30pm

Sorry for a questions that's probably been asked in the past. My Firefox Portable, version 64.0, is nagging me for a while now to update to 64.0.2, but I'm not seeing an update here. I don't want to update through the browser, since it's installed on an external harddrive and I am afraid it will install on my computer. About how long will it be before the update is available here? I don't remember ever seeing this nag before. Thanks.

Open new windows if firefox portable gets started twice

Submitted by multiinstance on January 7, 2019 - 5:37pm

Hello,

I like to change the behaviour of the firefox portable launcher to open a new window if I execute the launcher twice. Currently it shows a dialog with the options to force close firefox to open a new window or to cancel. This would be very helpful.

EDIT: If it matters, I set AllowMultipleInstances=true (not sure if it is the limitation described here: https://portableapps.com/node/27019)

Thank you!

Multiple Portable Firefox Instances

Submitted by pulsar on January 5, 2019 - 2:40am

I'm pretty sure it used to be possible to have two separate Firefox Portable instances (Different folders with different profiles in them) and use them simultaneously with AllowMultipleInstances=true in the settings file. This seems to not work any more. Is there another option to have two separate instances of FF portable and having them run simultaneously?

Thank you!

Conflict with installed version of FF and FF portable

Submitted by kdrive on December 17, 2018 - 9:25am

I have the latest version of FireFox Portable on a flash drive.
I have it because I use public library (Windows) computers and those computers don't always have the latest version of FireFox installed.

When I open FireFox from my flash drive, it brings up the library home page as my Home page.

When I open the Options for the Home page in the browser, that option is grayed out/disabled.

Is there a way that I can set my home page to blank?
How is the installed version overriding the portable version?

Firefox 52.8.1 ESR IS Timebombed!

Submitted by NotMine on November 16, 2018 - 7:04am

My current installed version of Firefox Portable 52.8.1 ESR loads up and reports as Firefox Portable 60.0.10 ESR.

Somehow Firefox Portable ESR is automatically updating itself. I have had this happen to me twice now. I think the "timebomb" kicks off every 30 to 60 days. At least that's what I seem to remember from when it last bombed out; the main FF 52.8.1 ESR folder timestamp is about 40 days old right now.

On FF Portable 63, the Prompt to Update Cannot Be Disabled

Submitted by md95z on November 4, 2018 - 3:27pm

For years, I have used FF Portable (on Windows 7). However, I ALWAYS disable the auto-update feature. This is because the update process always tries to create another copy of my user profile, bookmarks, and add-ons under these locations:

C:\Users\[logon name]\AppData\Local\Mozilla
C:\Users\[logon name]\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla

Note: The same thing happens if you set FF Portable as the Default Browser and Windows tries to start FF Port like a normal application. A second set of application files are created.

Updating before PortApps offers?

Submitted by OsakaWebbie on November 4, 2018 - 5:18am

Firefox was really pesky last week - every day (perhaps even more often - I'm not sure) it popped up a notification saying that version 63.0.1 was available and suggesting I download it. Until today PortableApps did not say it was available, so I kept clicking "Not Now" on the notification until I could upgrade through PortableApps. In the Options, there are only two choices: "automatically install updates" or "check for updates but let you choose to install them".
