Running Portable Firefox on Multiple Systems Simultaneously?

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on February 6, 2006 - 3:21pm

I ran into portable Firefox the other day. Super work! I love the fact I can put it on my file server and then have any system on my network access and run Firefox.

However, it seems I can't run more than one session of Firefox. In other words, only one machine can run it at a time. Is this what it should be doing? Or is there capability to allow multiple computers to use it at the same time? Even if it is technically possible, would this violate any of the license terms?

Any assistance appreciated.

Absolute paths in PortableFirefox.ini does not work

Submitted by MoHaG on February 6, 2006 - 10:54am

I want to use Portable Firefox to run Firefox from my university's network space (which was recently increased to make this practical). However I want to share the main firefox directory with other users to save some space, letting each user keep just his/her own profile. (User copies PortableFirefox exe and a default ini and profile dir.) This also makes Firefox updates quick and easy.

I tried setting FirefoxDirectory in PortableFirefox.ini, but it does not work.

Is it possible to add support for absolute paths in the launcher? This will help a lot in this case.

The lines I tried that gave me a "firefox.exe not found" error:

Local cache cleared after use of PFF

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on February 6, 2006 - 5:42am

1st : Sorry for my poor english.

2nd : Thanks for your work, John, I really appreciate using PFF and all your apps.

3rd : My problem.
After I've used PFF, the cache of my local FF is automaticaly cleared. Which is a problem with a 56k connection (I'm in a small island, no high speed internet here).

So, how can I prevent this from happening ?

Problems with Portable firefox after it updated itself

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on February 3, 2006 - 3:38am

Portable firefox was working well but last night the application decided to update itself to a newer version that doesn't seem to work. I have a backup of my drive so it is not a huge problem but I would like to know if I can stop it updating itself or whether there is a new version of potable firefox I should be using?

Flash Download Error

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on February 2, 2006 - 3:45pm

I'm trying to install Flash onto my PFF installation. I've added the site to the whitelist and when I try to download the extension as per the instructions at https://portableapps.com/support/portable_firefox#plugins, I get "Firefox could not install the file at http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/xpi/current/flashplayer... because: Download error".

I've tried using the likes of MozRegKey, downloading the installer manually and installing directly to the plugins folder, copying the necessary dll to the plugins folder (which is only Flash 6) and still having no luck.
