turn off language packs when upgrading

Submitted by gendalf on April 28, 2015 - 9:23am

I've had a problem - when i upgraded ff portable it crashed without launching. I found out that the problem was caused by the language pack, installed by me in previous version of ff, it is in language section of about:addons.

So the suggestion is - add to your portable unpacker/installer automatic turning off language pack(s), if there're any installed by user.

Native HTML5 Notifications don't seem to work?

Submitted by RedKage on April 26, 2015 - 5:26am

Hi there,

I have made various tests with the GNotifier addon.
- When I use an installed version of Firefox -> the notifications are native.
On Win10 TP it will add a new entry in the "New notifications" panel with "E7CF176E110C211B" as the app name.
- When I use the PortableApps version, and the same profile -> it will show the notification using the built-in popup.

Also, I seem to have the same exact issue with Thunderbird by the way.

question about data privacy

We need to include (and modify) a browser on a USB that leaves as little trace as possible of its existence. I know there are things that we can't do anything about (like shellbags and prefetch-cache entries) that show something was run, but we're mostly concerned with browser data. The TOR browser bundle claims to have patched a few other things that aren't cache-related (I think). The quote is:

FF slower after version 31

Submitted by badcom on April 12, 2015 - 8:14am

Hello,

I've noticed the FF portable has been slower after version 31. In one of a client's website (I can't post it here) I noticed via the Network tab in the Webdeveloper tool that it always loads a bunch of files (js and css) whereas in the normal FF version and FF portable 31 it only loads 2 (no js or css). Wondering if you have changed any cache settings or anything else that could affect its performance?

Thanks,
Vilmondes

Memory Leak/Crash; 64-bit Stable Build recommendation?

Submitted by testplayer on April 8, 2015 - 6:10am

I was happy with the standard Firefox portable (stable release, currently 37.0.1), and I have been using more than 70 extensions in my current profile which can be traced back to 2008. But in the recent several months, I do have too many tabs opened, so it is quite easy to make firefox.exe to occupy more than 2.4GB memory. In this case, the whole browser window will be completely blank without showing anything and CPU usage will blow up. It is quite annoying because I had to kill the process frequently and resume my work every time.
