Thunderbird Portable

Moving from Thunderbird for WinXP to Thunderbird Portable

Submitted by Eco-rah on May 29, 2008 - 6:39pm

Hello,

Some time ago, due to bad viruses in my system, I quickly search for the way to save my mail data.
I copied both the 'Local Folders' and 'mail.eco-rah.be' folders data, not the profile.ini, abook.mab, pref.js and other data in the profile directory.

Now I installed the portable version of Thunderbird on a USB stick and (re-)created the account. I then copied the 'Local Folders' and 'mail.eco-rah.be' data to the new folders.

But when I start Thunderbird Portable, it doesn't make the link.
The 'import' function in 'Tools' doesn't propose Thunderbird as mail format to import.

TBP.exe on one partition - Datas on a second partition

Submitted by zaam on May 28, 2008 - 4:38pm

Hi,
I have been using TBP for quite a time on a USB drive as to now but, recently, I bought an external hdd which I parted in two : 1 part for my portable apps, the other one for my datas.
I copied/pasted my profile folders to their "new" direction (the second part, if you follow ... -;) ) and indicated this "new" path in the settings options of my TB.
Everything works fine as long as I use TBP from my ext HDD plugged on my personal laptop.
The pbm is ... the path is not relative ! And thus cannot be used/read/recognized on another PC !!!

Lost mail, locked settings?

Submitted by wigginspop on May 27, 2008 - 1:18pm

Thunderbird Portable 2.0.0.14 on PNY 1GB usb stick.
ONE of my four popped Gmail accounts has lost messages and will not allow settings changes.

I have deleted msf files tried compacting etc.
Appears as two unread three total but nothing shows in message list pane or preview pane.

Unusual behavior:

1) Additional property tabs
Right click - Inbox of any other gmail account shows properties shows General Information and Retention Policy tabs. Account in trouble ALSO has Offline Sharing and Quota tabs.

2) Incorrect setting cannot be changed

Lost mails in Thunderbird-but, why?

Submitted by molngab on May 26, 2008 - 12:27pm

Hello!

I have a lot of mail in Thunderbird Inbox directory. But, more than 20 messages are damaged, unreadable-and I don't know, why?
Here is a picture of a message window in TB.
http://kepfeltoltes.hu/080526/tb_www.kepfeltoltes.hu_.jpg

No content. No header. No sender, subject, date etc.
Nothing.
Where is the content of these messages? How can I recover it (if is this possible)?
What is the possible ground of data damaging?

Thanks!

Power failure = lost address book

Submitted by 1techman on May 26, 2008 - 8:52am

Hi,
I'm using Thunderbird Portable edition from a thumb drive so that I can take it with me when I travel. Both of my O.S.'s are Windows XP Pro.
The other night I was working during a storm when the power went off. Results: lost one of my address books.
I keep my contacts in different address books like Friends, Family, Clients etc. The one I was working in was Clients and now I'm in big trouble.

Thunderbird Portable 2.0.1.4 Live CD Issues

Submitted by Mikroft on May 25, 2008 - 1:51am

Hi. I'm trying to run Thunderbird Portable 2.0.1.4 in Live CD mode. I've tried with the ini many times. It works fine locally on the hard drive. But when I copy the files onto CDR with the ini file at the root folder with thunderbird portable.exe it always loads as if nothing was set. All files are burned in the exact same folder structure as it was on the hdd. Help please.
