Can't backup/delete Profile folder - prefs-4.js

Submitted by MPenguin on July 2, 2008 - 11:25pm

I'm running the newest version of Thunderbird Portable with Webmail extensions to manage several accounts. Yesterday I was having problems with Thunderbird (was closing unexpectedly, etc) so I decided to do a new reinstall.

When I was trying to delete the folder from my thumb drive, I kept getting an error - couldn't delete prefs-4.js.

I ended up reinstalling over the old folder. Now I'm trying to backup my profile (simply copy to and with MozBackup) and I keep getting the same error - cannot copy prefs-4.js - file is corrupt etc.

is there a solution to the changing drive letter problem?

I'm trying to get myself set up so I can work off other computers while I'm on the road. I've got TBP up and running off my USB but the account settings are hooped when it comes to the "Local Directory"

under "Server Settings": it writes in the drive letter which, of course, changes frequently as one moves between computers.

As it happens I have my TB mail in a non-standard place, namely $Drive/working/Thunderbird/Mail... but you can't specify that, the $Drive part, in the "Local Folder" field, nor simply /working/... .

Can't enter password to access program

Just in the last couple of days, when I plug my USB drive and double-click the EXE file, the dialog box is only half there. The white box where I am supposed to enter my password does not appear and the OK and Cancel buttons are both white. I have also noticed that the Get Mail button at the top doesn't appear and the menu line (File, Edit... etc) is blank. Because the "About" is not there, I can't see what version I am running.
Something is seriously screwy and corrupt somewhere but I have no idea how it happened or why.
