Removing and reinstalling TB

Submitted by asilvr on March 25, 2008 - 11:37pm

Hello,

I need some guidance and hope someone is able to help me. I installed TB U3 flash drive and up until a few minutes ago, was using it without a problem.

I recently installed and ran a clean up registry program and do not know if this caused a problem with TB, but now when I attempt to open TB, I get a message saying that it cannot be restarted and must be re-installed. It then says that the program cannot be found.

Thunderbird damages NTFS and FAT32 on USB-HDD and Flash Drive

Submitted by Otmar on March 25, 2008 - 6:15am

Since I use TBP the same Problem:
Don't matter if I shoot down my PC or Laptop, or try to make a save release of the hardware, different files are damaged and I need to use chkdsk /f /r to repair filesystem.

The same error occours on USB-HDD with NTFS and FAT32 as well as on flash drive using FAT32.

In past i'd lost somtimes TBP system files, sometimes e-mail folders and somtimes both.

But: this error occours not, if I use TBP running on internal HDD.
(Yes, I had a lot of fun.)

Any idea????
Thanks in advance!!!

Hi all,

I had always been reluctant to use mail clients, but TBP made it grow on me to the point that I consider using regular TB on the side, as long as I can synchronize it with my TBP.

I tried to read all the old topics about it, so here is a short synthesis of what I learned:

- One can simply copy mails from one folder to the other if it is the only needed synch.

- But Synch_thunder is the way to go to really synchronize both.

-I've seen some other stuff, like using Toucan, but I did not quite figure out how to do it.

Portable edition vs. browsers

Submitted by molngab on March 23, 2008 - 4:28am

Hello!

My problem: in my browsers (IE, Opera, Firefox) I set up the default POP3 client: The Thunderbird (instead of the default Outlook express).
But, my settings-or the TB doesn't work! If I click on an e-mail address in a web browser, the browser start the default client-the TB-it's ok.
But, the TB don't start so, If I run it manually-the TB load a new, and leer mailbox, and ask me the account information (pop3 server name, login name, password, import of exist mailing list etc.). TB do so as a newly installed program.
How can I set the correct working of TB with web browsers?

Can't send mail from Japan

Submitted by misterz on March 22, 2008 - 3:47am

I just returned from 10 days in Osaka. I tried repeatedly to send email out from the program but could not connect with the server. I tried all kinds of configurations. I downloaded the program directly to the laptop (vs. the thumbdrive). Same result. Finally, I went to a public PC at an internet cafe. Same result. Just got home in NJ. Popped the thumbdrive into my PC. Worked fine. Any ideas? I just heard that Japanese ISP's are blocking file sharing. Any connection?

Outlook Express import problems

Submitted by fr1998 on March 20, 2008 - 3:57pm

Just to let inform every one of some problems I had today.
Having installed PortableApps for myself recently with great satisfaction, I offered to do a small installation for my wife featuring simply Firefox and Thunderbird.
Everything went well until I tried to import from her Outlook Express profile to ThunderbirdPortable.
I successfully imported the account, contacts and messages into TP and then did some housekeeping, copying messages from the old folders to the new.

Submitted by mattkma on March 19, 2008 - 10:33am

I am using the latest version of Thunderbird Portable and no matter what I try I cannot get HTML inside of messages to display. I have set message body as show original HTML. IS there something I am missing?
