Error launching PTB

Submitted by sergiom99 on August 6, 2006 - 11:38pm

I am using PTB in my Kingston flash drive without any problems. My mainboard only has USB 1.0 ports, so I just installed a PCI USB 2.0 card.
When I try to launch PTB from this new ports I get this error message:
(sorry my Win XP is in spanish)
http://img46.imagevenue.com/img.php?image=21495_error_TB_USB_307lo.jpg

If I plug the drive in the old ports, i can launch PTB as usual.
I can use the drive+PTB in my work PC, a Dual Core pentium, so USB 2.0 is not an issue. Could it be the PCI USB Card?? I changed it for another one, with same results. (VIA Chip, 5 ports (1 internal))

Thanks fo

Been using PT forever and love it (thanx!), BUT. Just installed the latest update (fresh install, then moved over my saved profile) and all seemed to go well, but when I started up the new one to test it out, it said that my SMTP ShowName extension, which saved my butt because I often have to "tweak" my smtp settings for numerous accounts) won't work with the new version---and prayerfully clicking on the "check for update" button yielded "no update available."

It's been so long since I first installed this that to my embarrassment I've forgotten the exact function, but I know that until I did, I couldn't set PT to use different SMTP servers for different accounts?

Thunderbid NonPortable to Thunderbird Portable profile transfer

Submitted by foob on August 6, 2006 - 8:14pm

I've been using Thunderbird Portable for a while, but now a client has asked to get it on the action Blum (I may have extolled the virtues of the portable life, never thinking that I'd have to set things up for him, d'oh!)

THE PROBLEM
-----------
He has MANY mail accounts.

1) Is it necessary to set all these up manually when transferring from his desktop Thunderbird to portable Thunderbird?

If so, is there an easier/faster way. Some of these passwords are hidden. I envisage lots of time-wasting finding them.

As I say, it's been ages since I've done this, so a reminder would be great!

Submitted by spuri on August 6, 2006 - 4:04pm

I was very happy when i downloaded the ptb201 release. I tried to upgrade my previous ptb1.5 to 2.01 but when i tried to localize i get errors Sad
I tried to localize your btb201 release but I got the same errors.
I downloaded the latest HU release from here
ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/nightly/latest-mozilla...
and copied to ThunderbirdPortable\App\thunderbird but i get this message at the bottom and the menu is missing.
menuitem id="FolderPaneContext-new"----^

I tried to install switch-locales-1.5.1.xpi also but final is the same.

How could I solve?
Thanks

Change profile location

Submitted by Ludes on August 5, 2006 - 6:52am

I have set a folder for personal data I regularly synchronize between a usb key, containing ThunderbirdPortable, and a desktop computer running standard Thunderbird software. The idea is to get my mail folders, address books as well as environment (extensions, themes, accounts, options) identical between my usb key and my home computer, what ever the software version used, and keep all changes automatically.

But I cannot re-locate the folder "profile" to a personal data folder with the portable edition, thing that i can do easily by adding "-ProfileManager" after the standard thunderbird.exe.

Registry Editing Has Been Disabled...

Submitted by Bulldog on August 3, 2006 - 4:48pm

When I start and close Portable Thunderbird I see the message "Registry editing has been disabled by your Administrator", which is correct since I'm only a limited user here at work.

To banish these messages I simply moved the 'registry' sub-folder out of the 'data' folder. Everything seems to be working fine. Is it okay to leave things this way?
