Thunderbird Portable

Change profile location

Submitted by Ludes on August 5, 2006 - 6:52am

I have set a folder for personal data I regularly synchronize between a usb key, containing ThunderbirdPortable, and a desktop computer running standard Thunderbird software. The idea is to get my mail folders, address books as well as environment (extensions, themes, accounts, options) identical between my usb key and my home computer, what ever the software version used, and keep all changes automatically.

But I cannot re-locate the folder "profile" to a personal data folder with the portable edition, thing that i can do easily by adding "-ProfileManager" after the standard thunderbird.exe.

Registry Editing Has Been Disabled...

Submitted by Bulldog on August 3, 2006 - 4:48pm

When I start and close Portable Thunderbird I see the message "Registry editing has been disabled by your Administrator", which is correct since I'm only a limited user here at work.

To banish these messages I simply moved the 'registry' sub-folder out of the 'data' folder. Everything seems to be working fine. Is it okay to leave things this way?

Thunderbird on PC & USB drive

Submitted by pparik on July 31, 2006 - 7:41am

I have been using portable Thunderbird off my USB for some time now. I am now planning to use Thunderbird as my main Email client on my PC. I wish to continue to use my USB drive to take my Email around with me, when I am not carrying my laptop.

How do I ;

1. Move my existing Email from my USB drive to my laptop.

2. How do I keep Thunderbird on my laptop in sync with T'bird on my USB.

Thanks in advance.

Missing Accounts

Submitted by HairyK on July 29, 2006 - 10:07am

Hi,

As a new user, I downloaded and setup Portable Thunderbird on my thumbdrive. I setup two accounts and downloaded some mail.

Now, I have my thumbdrive at home and the accounts I setup are gone. I did setup each account to use its own folder and not the local folders.

I am using the portable launcher version 1.1.4.1 and Thunderbird version 1.5.0.5.

My office machine has my thumbdrive set to letter F: and my home machine has my thumbdrive set to letter E:.

Thanks for you help in advance.

Different SMTP servers at home and work

Submitted by fhanselmann on July 28, 2006 - 2:53pm

I have multiple personal email accounts across multiple personal domains.

I am trying to find out if it is possible to setup PTB to use the individual SMTP servers for each personal domain when I am using it on my home PC but only use one SMTP server while at work. Port 25 is blocked at work, but I can configure PTB to use work SMTP server to send mail. I can't and don't want to use the work SMTP server while at home.

Put another way, is it possible to run two instances (not at the same time) of PTB (one for home with it's servers setup, one for work with it's server setup) and use the same data store? Or is there another way I haven't thought of to accomplish this?
